Walter Redondo
Walter Redondo (born 1958) is an American artist and former professional tennis player. His elder sister Marita Redondo competed on the WTA Tour. Redondo is the fifth of nine children born into a Filipino American family from San Diego. Growing up he was a leading player on the junior circuit, ranked top in the country for the 16s, ahead of his peer John McEnroe. The death of his grandmother, who had helped raise him and his siblings, was a catalyst for a gradual decline in his performances. On the professional tour he reached a career high ranking of 226 in the world. He had a win over Francisco González at a Grand Prix tournament in Tampa in 1981 and was a quarter-finalist at the 1981 Pacific Southwest Open, beating Rolf Gehring en route. Glen Holroyd
Glen Holroyd (born September 25, 1954) is a former professional tennis player from the United States and played college tennis at Arizona State University. Biography Career Holroyd competed professionally in the early 1980s. He made the main singles draw of the 1981 Wimbledon Championships and was beaten in the first round by 16th seed Vitas Gerulaitis, then in the men's doubles made it all the way to the third round with partner Walter Redondo, where they took eventual finalists Bob Lutz and Stan Smith to five sets. His two other Grand Slam main draw appearances were in doubles, at the Australian and French Opens in 1980, with Craig Wittus. On the Challenger circuit he won a doubles title in Guadalajara in 1981, with Eric Sherbeck as his partner. The 1981 Wimbledon Championships was a tennis tournament that took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. Peter Fleming and John McEnroe defeated Bob Lutz and Stan Smith in the final, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 to win the gentlemen's doubles title at the 1981 Wimbledon Championships.
