1981 Cuban Parliamentary Election
Indirect parliamentary elections were held in Cuba on 28 December 1981.Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Union On 11 and 18 October voters elected members of the 169 Municipal Assemblies. A total of 6,097,139 votes were cast in the first round (11 October) and in the second round (18 October), giving a turnout of 97% in the first round and 93.6% in the second. National Assembly Of People's Power
The National Assembly of People's Power ( es, Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular) is the unicameral parliament of the Republic of Cuba. It is currently composed of 605 representatives who are elected from multi-member electoral districts for a term of five years. The current President of the Assembly is Esteban Lazo Hernández. The Assembly only meets twice a year, with the 31-member Council of State exercising legislative power throughout the rest of the year. The most recent elections were held on 11 March 2018. After the 2023 elections, the number of representatives will decrease to 474. Voters can select individual candidates on their ballot, select every candidate, or leave every question blank, with no option to vote against candidates. During the 2013 elections, around 80% of voters selected every candidate for the Assembly on their ballot, while 4.6% submit a blank ballot; no candidate for the Assembly has ever lost an election in Cuban history. Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (; ; 13 August 1926 – 25 November 2016) was a Cuban revolutionary and politician who was the leader of Cuba from 1959 to 2008, serving as the prime minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 and president from 1976 to 2008. Communist Party Of Cuba
The Communist Party of Cuba ( es, Partido Comunista de Cuba, PCC) is the sole ruling party of Cuba. It was founded on 3 October 1965 as the successor to the United Party of the Cuban Socialist Revolution, which was in turn made up of the 26th of July Movement and Popular Socialist Party that seized power in Cuba after the 1959 Cuban Revolution. The party governs Cuba as an authoritarian one-party state where dissidence and political opposition are prohibited and repressed. The Cuban constitution ascribes the role of the party to be the " leading force of society and of the state". The highest body within the PCC is the Party Congress, which convenes every five years. Young Communist League (Cuba)
The Young Communist League ( es, Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas, UJC) is the youth organization of the Communist Party of Cuba. Its membership is voluntary and selective, and counts more than 600,000 active members. Its symbol shows the stylized faces of Julio Antonio Mella, Camilo Cienfuegos and Che Guevara. The motto is ''Estudio, Trabajo, Fusil'' and means "Study, Work, Rifle". History The Cuban Young Communist League came into existence along with the Communist Party of Cuba in 1965.
