1980 World Weightlifting Championships
The 1980 Men's World Weightlifting Championships were held in Moscow, Soviet Union from July 20 to July 30, 1980. There were 173 men in action from 40 nations. This tournament was a part of 1980 Summer Olympics but counted as World Weightlifting Championships too. Only total medals counted for Olympic Games while Snatch and Clean & Jerk medals counts for World Weightlifting Championships. Péter Baczakó
Péter Baczakó (born 27 September 1951 in Ercsi – d. 1 April 2008 in Budapest) was a Hungarian weightlifter. He won a bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics and a gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Overall Baczako won a total of 23 medals, including four gold, at world and European championships from 1973 to 1982. He spent his whole career at the Budapest club BKV-Elore, where he became a coach after he retired from competing. Peter Baczako died on April 1, 2008, in Budapest of cancer. Blagoy Blagoev ( bg, Благой Благоев; born 4 December 1956) is a retired Bulgarian weightlifter. Between 1976 and 1984 he claimed seven gold and five silver medals at the Summer Olympics and World and European championships. He set 18 world records. 13 of them were in the snatch. His last snatch world record was 195.5 kg in the 90 kg weight class, set on 1 May 1983 in Varna and remains the heaviest weight ever snatched by a middle heavyweight. Blagoev was a two time Olympian. Nedelcho Lazarov Kolev ( bg, Неделчо Лазаров Колев, born 26 March 1953 in Kableshkovo) is a Bulgarian Olympic, European and World Weightlifting Champion. He had success at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and won 6 gold medals at the world championships in Manila and Havana, Cuba. Asen Zlatev ( bg, Асен Златев; born May 23, 1960) is a former Bulgarian weightlifter. Zlatev is an Olympic champion from the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games in Russia, in the category of up to 75 kg.
