1980 Individual Long Track World Championship
The 1980 Individual Long Track World Championship was the tenth edition of the FIM speedway Individual Long Track World Championship. The event was held on 14 September 1980 at Scheeßel in West Germany. The World title was won by Karl Maier of West Germany. The Championship consisted of four qualifying rounds at Harsewinkel, Korskro, Hamburg-Farmsen, Pfarrkirchen won by Bruce Penhall, Ivan Mauger, Egon Müller and Georg Hack respectively and two semi finals in Jübek and Gornja Radgona won by Ole Olsen and Josef Aigner. Final Classification + Alois Wiesböck finished third but was disqualified because his engine was found to be over the prescribed limit. Bronze medals were awarded to both Betzl and Aigner. Christoph Betzl
Christoph Betzl (born 13 February 1949) is a former international speedway rider from West Germany. Speedway career Betzl reached the final of the Speedway World Championship in the 1979 Individual Speedway World Championship representing West Germany. He has also reached the final of the Individual Speedway Long Track World Championship on eight occasions in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982. He won a bronze medal in the 1980 final and a silver medal in the 1981 final. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway, riding for Poole Pirates. Alois Wiesböck
Alois Wiesböck (born 31 July 1950), in Niederbergkirchen, is a former Long track motorcycle racing world champion and international motorcycle speedway rider from Germany. Craeer Wiesböck was winner of the Individual Speedway Long Track World Championship in 1979. He was also the West German Champion in 1974 and 1978. He rode in Great Britain during the 1979 British League season as a rider for the Reading Racers but only rode in two matches. Anders Michanek
Anders Michanek (born 30 May 1943 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Speedway rider. In 1974 he won the Speedway World Championship in his Swedish homeland with a maximum score of 15 points. Career Michanek had a very successful career riding in the British League. He initially signed for the Long Eaton Archers in 1967 before going on to ride for various clubs including Leicester Lions, Newcastle Diamonds, Reading Racers, Ipswich Witches and Cradley Heathens. Christopher John Morton, MBE (born 22 July 1956) is a former motorcycle speedway rider. He rode bikes from a young age at the farm of Peter Collins' parents. Brief career summary Born in Davyhulme, Lancashire, Morton made his debut for Ellesmere Port Gunners (on loan from Belle Vue Aces) on 15 May 1973. He showed rapid improvement then following an injury to Aces Captain Chris Pusey in June 1973 he was drafted into the Belle Vue team scoring 6 points on his debut in an away meeting at Cradley Heath. The following season he became British Under-21 Champion at just 17 years of age. During the late 1970s, Morton was a guest resident international rider at the famous Rowley Park Speedway in Adelaide, South Australia where he often rode against the likes of home town hero John Boulger and Mildura's Phil Crump. Jiří Štancl (born 18 November 1949 in Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Czechoslovakia. Career Štancl reached the final of the Speedway World Championship on nine occasions between 1971 and 1984, finishing a career best 9th in 1982 Individual Speedway World Championship, 1982 in Los Angeles. Peter Collins (speedway Rider)
Peter Spencer Collins MBE (born 24 March 1954) is a former speedway rider who spent his whole career (1971–1986) with the Belle Vue Aces, the team he supported as a child. The only other club he rode for was the now defunct Rochdale Hornets (Belle Vue's nursery team), with whom he spent the first season of his career on loan. During his career, Peter Collins won 10 World Championships in speedway competition (one Individual, four Pairs and five World Team Cups) making him the most successful British rider in history.
