1980 Espirito Santo Trophy
The 1980 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 1–4 October at Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina, United States. It was the ninth women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 28 teams, each with up to three players. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States team won the Trophy, taking back the title from four years ago and winning their seventh title, beating defending champions team Australia by seven strokes. Australia earned the silver medal while team France and the combined team of Great Britain and Ireland, shared the bronze on tied third place another 15 strokes behind. Edwina Kennedy
Edwina Jane Kirkby (née Kennedy), born 10 June 1959, is a former Australian amateur golfer. In 1978, she was the first Australian to win the British Ladies Amateur and was a member of the winning 1978 Australian Espirito Santo Trophy team. Liv Wollin (née Forsell) (born 17 April 1945) is a Swedish professional golfer, who is regarded as having been one of the best Swedish female amateur players ever. Early life Wollin grew up in Lidingö outside Stockholm, Sweden, as the only girl among five siblings. Her parents were Jacob Forsell and Mette, nee Grut, and they were not golfers. Pia Nilsson (born 8 May 1958) is a Sweden, Swedish professional golfer and coach. She was one of the two players, who were the first female Swedes to play collegiate golf at a University in the United States and the first Swede to captain a European Solheim Cup team. Marta Figueras-Dotti (born 12 November 1957) is a retired Spanish professional golfer. Early life Figueras-Dotti was born in Madrid and her father was the president of the Spanish Golf Association. She started playing golf at 8 years of age. Amateur career Figueras-Dotti represented Spain seven straight years at the European Lady Junior's Team Championship, for players up to the age of 21, 1973–1979, being on the winning team in 1975 and 1977 and also winning individually in 1977. Alison Sheard (born 21 September 1951) is a South African professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and LPGA Tour. During her career, Sheard became the first-non British champion of the Women's British Open in 1979 and won three other LET events. Amateur career Sheard was born on 21 September 1951 in Durban, South Africa. At Souuh African golf events held by Golf RSA, Sheard won the SA Women's Stroke Play five times from 1974 to 1979. Federica Dassù
Federica Dassù (born 17 February 1957) is an Italian professional golfer. Career Dassù was born in Milan. She turned professional in 1983 and joined the Women Professional Golfers' European Tour (now the Ladies European Tour). She won her last Ladies European Tour title, the 2003 Open de España Femenino at an age of 44, the oldest LET winner at the time, and announced her retirement at the end of the season. Belle Robertson
Isabella Robertson (née McCorkindale) (born 11 April 1936) is a Scottish golfer who won the British Ladies Amateur in 1981. Robertson represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup as a player on seven occasions and twice as non-playing captain. She was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Career Robertson learned to play golf at Dunaverty Golf Club in Argyll, Scotland. Maureen Elizabeth Jane Madill (born 1 February 1958) is a professional golfer, coach and broadcaster. Her married name is Garner. Madill was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. Golf career Madill won the British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship in 1979 and the British Ladies Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 1980. Jane Connachan (born 25 February 1964) is a Scottish professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour. Amateur career Connachan was considered a child prodigy, playing competitive golf constantly since the age of 10, and in the 17 years until she suddenly retired at age 27, accumulated an almost unparalleled record.
