1979 Netherlands Antilles Island Council Elections
Island council elections were held in the Netherlands Antilles in April 1979. They were the eighth elections for the Island Council. Aruba Results Saba General elections were held in Saba on 27 April 1979. The result was a victory for the Windward Islands People's Movement, which won all five Island Council seats. Results Sint Maarten General elections were held in Sint Maarten on 27 April 1979 to elect the 5 members of the Island Council. The result was a victory for the Democratic Party, which won three of the five Island Council seats. The People's Electoral Movement ( nl, Electorale Volksbeweging, pap, Movimiento Electoral di Pueblo, MEP) is a social democratic political party in Aruba. following the 2001 general election for the Parliament of Aruba the party won 52.4% of popular vote and 12 out of 21 seats. in the 2005 general election, the party won 43% of the popular vote and 11 out of 21 seats thus won the election and remained in power. in the 2009 general election, MEP lost 2 seats and won 36% of the vote, subsequently losing the election. Aruban People's Party
The Aruban People's Party (AVP; nl, Arubaanse Volkspartij, pap, Partido di Pueblo Arubano) is a Christian-democratic political party in Aruba founded in 1942. AVP is an acronym for the Dutch name of the party. At the 2001 elections, on 28 September 2001, the party won 26.7% of popular votes or 6 out of 21 seats. On 23 September 2005, the party won 38% of the popular vote or 8 out of 21 seats, making it the largest opposition party of the nation. In the 25 September 2009 election, the party came to power, winning 48% of the popular vote and 12 of the 21 seats. It held a majority in the Estates of Aruba obtaining 13 seats. The Aruban Patriotic Party ( Papiamento: ''Partido Patriotico Arubano'', PPA) is a political party in Aruba. It was founded in 1949. Prior to Aruba's independence, it was a supporter of a unified, independent Netherlands Antilles. The Windward Islands People's Movement (WIPM) is a political party in Saba, which held all five seats in the Island Council after the 2019 elections and until June 1, 2022, when council member Hemmie Van Xanten resigned from the party while continuing to serve as a councilor.
