1978 Meath Senior Football Championship
The 1978 Meath Senior Football Championship is the 86th edition of the Meath GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Meath, Ireland. The tournament consists of 16 teams, with the winner going on to represent Meath in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. Summerhill were the defending champions after they defeated Seneschalstown after a replay in the previous years final. However, they lost their crown held for 4 years when losing to Walterstown in the final. This was Dunshaughlin's second ever period in the senior grade after claiming the 1977 Meath Intermediate Football Championship title. Meath Senior Football Championship
The Meath Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in Meath, Ireland. Qualification for subsequent competitions The winners of the Meath Senior Football Championship winners qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Competition format From 2020, 16 teams compete in the championship, with four groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group qualify for the quarter-finals. The bottom two teams in each group progress to the relegation playoffs. The overall loser in the relegation playoffs gets relegated to the Intermediate Division. Dunshaughlin ( Irish: ''Domhnach Seachnaill'') is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Dunshaughlin, in County Meath, Ireland. The club competes at intermediate level in the Football championship. Formed in 1886, it is one of the oldest still-active clubs in Meath. History The first reported game was against Ross on 30 January 1987 which St. Seachnall’s won by 1-2 to 0-0. The club has since won many championships at Junior and Intermediate level. O'Connor Park
O'Connor Park ( ga, Páirc Uí Chonchúir) is a GAA stadium in Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland. It is one of the principal grounds of the Offaly GAA Gaelic football and hurling teams. It is known for sponsorship reasons as Bord na Móna O’Connor Park. The ground was opened in 1934, to replace Ballyduff Park, and currently has a capacity of 18,000. The ground currently consists of a covered stand on one side of the pitch, with terracing on the other three. A stand was built in 1991, but replaced by the current structure in 2006. The stand (currently known as the 'New Stand' pending decision on a new name) was completed in 2006. It seats 7,000 people and also includes a press box and a special section for wheelchair users. Seneschalstown GAA is a small rural Gaelic Athletic Association club from Beauparc/Kentstown parish in County Meath, founded in 1932. The club ground is situated about 6 miles east of Navan and 3 miles south of Slane. The club has a history in all levels of GAA football over the years and more recently with both its Senior Men and Ladies' teams. Navan O'Mahony's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Navan in County Meath, Ireland. The club competes in Meath competitions. With 20 Senior Football wins they are the most successful football club in Meath. The club has also won 2 Senior Hurling Championships placing them in the top 15 most successful hurling sides in the county. History The idea of forming a new Gaelic football club in Navan was first mooted during a late evening discussion at the house of the late Peter Hughes, Rathaldron, Navan, with co-founders, the late Eddie Duignan and Jack Callaghan spearheading the move. Summerhill Gaelic Football Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Summerhill in County Meath, Ireland. The team was first founded in 1905 but later disbanded. The current club was founded in 1931, and has since won 7 Meath Senior Football Championships. Summerhill is one of three Meath teams to have won the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. History Early history The first GAA club in Summerhill was founded in 1905, little is known about this team and is thought to have disbanded sometime around 1913 or 1914. After this, Summerhill had no local club and many players went to play for teams in nearby towns, mostly going to Bohermeen who were at that time the most prominent team in the county. St Patrick's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Stamullen, in Meath, Ireland. The club competes at Intermediate level in football and Junior level in hurling in Meath GAA competitions. The club was founded in January 1950 by the amalgamation Stamullen and Julianstown GAA clubs. The original clubs were mildly successful in senior football with Stamullen and Julianstown both winning a Senior Football Championship. Skryne GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Village of Skryne, in County Meath, Ireland. The club mainly plays Gaelic Football. It competes in Meath GAA competitions. Skryne has the second most Meath Senior Football Championship titles after Navan O Mahony's. Every All-Ireland Winning Meath team has had a Skryne player as a panel member. Trim GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Trim, in County Meath, Ireland. The club fields both Gaelic football and hurling teams. It competes in Meath GAA competitions. Trim is known as the home of hurling in Meath and the Meath Senior Hurling Championship final was held there each year until the redevelopment of its facilities meant it was moved to Pairc Tailteann. 2011 Football Relegation Trim finished at the bottom of Group A, with 3 points from 5 games and point difference of -30, the lowest of any team that year. Wolfe Tones GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club which comprises an amalgamation of the parishes of Oristown and Kilberry which are situated roughly halfway between the town of Navan and the town of Kells, in County Meath, Ireland. The 1978 Meath Intermediate Football Championship is the 52nd edition of the Meath GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for intermediate graded teams in County Meath, Ireland. The tournament consists of 19 teams. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. This was Wolfe Tone's debut in the Intermediate grade after relegation from the S.F.C. the previous year. The club were formed in 1975 when St. John's (Kilberry) and Gibbstown joined forces. St. John's had previously won the I.F.C. title in 1974 so Wolfe Tones were put straight into the S.F.C. Ballinabrackey were promoted after claiming the 1977 Meath Junior Football Championship title. On 27 August 1978, Duleek claimed their 4th Intermediate championship title when they defeated Kilmainhamwood 0-9 to 1-5 in the final.
