Glasgow District (rugby Union)
Glasgow District was a Scottish amateur rugby union team which now plays as the professional provincial side Glasgow Warriors. Founded in 1872 it was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Greater Glasgow area, as well as others from the rest of the west of Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Strathclyde regional council area. Historically the Glasgow District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Glasgow District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Edinburgh District rugby union team. David Shedden
David Shedden (24 May 1944 in Kilwinning – 27 October 2017 in Linwood) was a Scotland international rugby union footballer, who played on the wing. He died in October 2017 aged 73. Rugby Union career Amateur career Shedden went to Spier's School in Beith. His PE teacher was Campbell Bone, an enlightened and passionate rugby coach in Ayrshire. Leaving school Shedden then played for Old Spierians before moving on to West of Scotland. He was part of the West of Scotland team that won the 'unofficial' Scottish championship title in season 1970–71. His nickname was 'The Spear' due to his distinctive tackling style. Provincial career Shedden was capped for Glasgow District and played in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. Jordanhill RFC
Jordanhill Rugby Football Club is a former rugby union football club based in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded as a club for the students and former students of Jordanhill College, it lasted until 1988 when it merged with Hillhead RFC to form Hillhead Jordanhill RFC. Jordanhill College Jordanhill College was planned in 1913 as a teacher training college. On the outbreak of the First World War, the building of the campus was delayed but Jordanhill School was completed in 1920 and the teaching college was completed in 1921. Hugh Campbell (rugby Union)
Hugh Campbell (born in Scotland) is a former head coach of the Glasgow Warriors. Playing career Amateur career Campbell played Jordanhill as a prop. Provincial career He represented the Glasgow District side. International career Campbell was capped at Scotland B level. Coaching career Campbell coached the Glasgow District side when they were still an amateur district. Campbell was previously the head coach of Scotland A and the scrummage and line out coach with the senior Scotland side. Hughenden Stadium
Hughenden is a multi-sports venue in the Hyndland area of Glasgow, Scotland. It has been the home since 1924 of Hillhead Sports Club, a private members' club catering for cricket, rugby union and tennis. The South of Scotland District is a Scottish amateur rugby union team which plays in the amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship. It draws its players from the South of Scotland, mainly the Scottish Borders where there has always been a proud tradition of rugby union. Historically the South team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. After rugby union became a professional sport in 1995, the team was replaced in 1996 by the new Border Reivers team based in the same geographical area as the South and who wore the same colours as the old team.
