The 1976 Tampa Bay Rowdies indoor season was the second indoor season of the club's existence. The Rowdies were able to replicate their 1975 outdoor success by winning the North American Soccer League's 1976 indoor championship. Tampa Bay Rowdies (1975–1993)
The Tampa Bay Rowdies were an American professional soccer team based in Tampa, Florida, that competed in the original North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1975 to 1984. They enjoyed broad popular support in the Tampa Bay area until the NASL folded in 1984, after which the team played in various minor indoor and outdoor leagues before finally folding on January 31, 1994. The Rowdies played nearly all of their outdoor home games at Tampa Stadium and nearly all of their indoor games at the Bayfront Center Arena in nearby St. Petersburg, Florida. Although San Diego played indoors until 1996, the Rowdies were the last surviving NASL franchise that played outdoor soccer on a regular basis. Altamont McKenzie
Altamont McKenzie (born 5 March 1951) is a retired Jamaican football (soccer) defender who spent two seasons in the North American Soccer League and at least one in the American Soccer League. He also played for the Jamaica national football team from 1978 to 1980. McKenzie attended SUNY Oneonta where he both played soccer and ran track from 1970 to 1973. He graduated in 1974 and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2000. The Dallas Tornado of the North American Soccer League drafted McKenzie in 1974. He spent two seasons in Texas before moving to the Tacoma Tides for the start of the 1976 American Soccer League season. He was traded to the Los Angeles Skyhawks mid way during the season, and helped L.A. win the ASL title. Eddie Austin
Edward Austin is a retired Scottish-American football (soccer) forward who played professionally in the North American Soccer League and American Soccer League. He later had an extensive career in team management culminating in working as the Chief Operations Officer for the Tampa Bay Mutiny of Major League Soccer. He was the 1998 and 2001 MLS Operations Executive of the Year. Player Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Austin moved to the United States with his family when he was a child. He is a 1970 graduate of the former Essex Catholic High School in Newark, N.J., where he played on two New Jersey Parochial A State Championship teams, 1969 and 1970. Austin played at the Varsity level all four years; those teams compiled a record, over four years, of 38 wins, 8 losses and 8 ties. Doug Wark
Doug Wark (born December 24, 1951) is a former Scottish-American soccer forward who spent five seasons in the North American Soccer League and three in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He earned one cap with the U.S. national team in 1975. Wark grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey where he attended Teaneck High School, graduating in 1970. College Wark attended Mitchell College and then transferred to Hartwick College where he played two seasons of soccer in 1972 and 1973. He earned second-team All-American recognition in 1973 as Hartwick went to the NCAA quarterfinals. Inducted into the Hartwick Athletic Hall of Fame on September 30, 1995. Professional Wark left Hartwick after his sophomore season to sign with the Rochester Lancers of the North American Soccer League (NASL). Mark Edward Lindsay (born 6 March 1958) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Born in Lambeth, Lindsay began his youth career at Crystal Palace, and signed professional terms in August 1973. He made 30 appearances in the Football League for the club. San Jose Earthquakes (1974–1988)
San Jose Earthquakes was a professional soccer club that played from 1974 to 1988. The team began as an expansion franchise in the North American Soccer League (NASL), and was originally set to play in San Francisco; but slow season ticket sales led to a late switch to San Jose's Spartan Stadium. The switch to sports-starved San Jose was an immediate hit, and the Earthquakes led the league with attendance over 15,000 per game in 1974, double the league average. The team's success led Spartan Stadium to be chosen as site of the first NASL Soccer Bowl in 1975. From 1983 to 1984, the team was known as the Golden Bay Earthquakes. Jim May (soccer)
Jim May is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who played professionally in the North American Soccer League and the Major Indoor Soccer League. May first attended SUNY Cobleskill where he was a 1972 junior college Honorable Mention (third team) All American soccer player. He earned an associate degree from Cobleskill in 1972 and was later inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. He then transferred to SUNY Brockport where he was a two-year starter on the men's soccer team. He was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. Dallas Tornado
The Dallas Tornado was a soccer team based in Dallas, Texas that played in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1967 to 1981. Of the twelve teams that comprised the U.S. in 1967, the Tornado franchise played the longest–15 seasons. Their home fields were Cotton Bowl (1967–1968), P.C. Miami Toros
The Miami Toros was a professional soccer team in the North American Soccer League from 1972 to 1976. The club was founded in 1967 as the Washington Darts, and moved to Miami, where they played the 1972 season in the NASL's Southern Division as the Miami Gatos. In 1973, the club rebranded as the Miami Toros. Their home field was at times the Miami Orange Bowl, Tamiami Field and Miami Dade College's North Campus Stadium. After the 1976 season, the team moved to Fort Lauderdale and became known as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and later moved to Minnesota and became known as the Minnesota Strikers. Boston Minutemen
The Boston Minutemen were an American professional soccer team based out of Boston that played in the North American Soccer League (NASL). They played from 1974 to 1976. Their home fields included Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Schaefer Stadium in Foxborough, Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy and Sargent Field in New Bedford. Portuguese legend Eusébio played for the Minutemen in 1975 as did famed American player Shep Messing.
