Miami Toros
The Miami Toros were a professional soccer team in the North American Soccer League (1968–1984), North American Soccer League from 1972 to 1976. The club was founded in 1967 as the Washington Darts, and moved to Miami, where they played the 1972 season in the NASL's Southern Division as the Miami Gatos. In 1973, the club rebranded as the Miami Toros. Their home field was at times the Miami Orange Bowl, Tamiami Park, Tamiami Field and Miami Dade College's North Campus Stadium. After the 1976 season, the team moved to Fort Lauderdale and became known as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (1977–83), Fort Lauderdale Strikers and later moved to Minnesota and became known as the Minnesota Strikers. Willie Evans (footballer Born 1939)
Willie Evans (21 November 1939 – c. 2014) was a Ghanaian footballer who played at both professional and international levels as a defender. Career Evans start playing with Auroras Park before playing with Real Republicans, and with Hearts of Oak. He later played professional soccer in the United States, competing in the NPSL, NASL and ASL for the Atlanta Chiefs, the Washington Darts, and the Miami Toros. He was named to the 1969 ASL All-Star Team. Steve David
Steve David (born 11 March 1951 in Point Fortin, Trinidad) is a Trinidadian former North American Soccer League and international football player. Club career David began his professional career with Police in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1974, he signed with the Miami Toros in the North American Soccer League. That season, the Toros had reached the finals, losing the championship games to Los Angeles 4–3. David had a standout second season and was named the 1975 NASL MVP as the Toros reached the league cup play-off semi-final stage. After a poor 1976 season, scoring only one goal in thirteen games, the Toros traded him to the Los Angeles Aztecs. He had a rebound in form, scoring twenty-six goals in twenty-four games. However, he began expressing dissatisfaction with the Aztecs at the beginning of the 1977 season. Overview Fifteen teams comprised the league with the Los Angeles Aztecs winning the championship in a penalty kick shootout over the Miami Toros. Changes from the previous season Rules changes The league decided to do away with tie games. If a match was tied after 90 minutes, the teams would go directly to a standard penalty shootout with no extra time played. The outcome would appear in the standings as a 'tie-win'. Soccer Bowl, NASL Final 1974 was the championship match of the 1974 North American Soccer League season, 1974 season, between the expansion Los Angeles Aztecs and the Miami Toros. 1976 NASL Indoor Tournament
Over the course of three weekends in March 1976, the North American Soccer League hosted its second league-wide indoor soccer tournament. Twelve of the twenty NASL teams participated. Overview In 1976, instead of playing a full indoor schedule (and despite the hopes of Tampa Bay owner George Strawbridge, Jr.), the North American Soccer League opted to stage a two-tiered indoor tournament for the second consecutive year. Of the league's 20 teams, 12 participated in three regions, which was down from 16 in four regions in the previous year's tournament. The regional winners along with the "best" second-place team would advance to the final four in St. Petersburg, Florida. While the goals remained 4 × 16, the games would be shortened to three 15-minute periods, instead of the 20-minute frames played the previous year. Tampa Bay Rowdies (1975–93)
The Tampa Bay Rowdies are an American professional soccer team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The club was founded in 2008 and first took the pitch in 2010. Since 2017, the Rowdies have been members of the USL Championship in the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. They formerly played in USSF Division 2 (in 2010) and the North American Soccer League (NASL) (from 2011 to 2016), which were also second-tier leagues. The Rowdies play their home games at Al Lang Stadium on St. Petersburg's downtown waterfront. Boston Minutemen
The Boston Minutemen were an American professional soccer team based in Boston, Massachusetts that played in the North American Soccer League (NASL). They played from 1974 to 1976. Their home fields included Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Schaefer Stadium in Foxborough, Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy and Sargent Field in New Bedford. Portuguese legend Eusébio played for the Minutemen in 1975, as did famed American player Shep Messing. In early 1975, the North American Soccer League (1968–84), North American Soccer League hosted its first league-wide indoor soccer tournament over the course of seven weeks. All but four NASL teams participated. The Dallas Tornado was a soccer team based in Dallas, Texas that played in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1967 to 1981. Of the twelve teams that comprised the U.S. in 1967, the Tornado franchise played the longest–15 seasons. Their home fields were Cotton Bowl (1967–1968), P.C.
