1974 Davis Cup Americas Zone
The Americas Zone was one of the three regional zones of the 1974 Davis Cup. 12 teams entered the Americas Zone split across two sub-zones, the North & Central America Zone and the South America Zone. 9 teams played in the preliminary rounds, competing to advance to the main draw and join the remaining 3 teams which advanced to the main draw directly. The winners of each sub-zone main draw then played against each other to determine who moved to the Inter-Zonal Zone to compete against the winners of the Eastern Zone and Europe Zone. Colombia defeated the United States in the North & Central America Zone final, and South Africa defeated Chile in the South America Zone final. In the Americas Inter-Zonal Final, South Africa defeated Colombia and progressed to the Inter-Zonal Zone. 1974 Davis Cup
The 1974 Davis Cup was the 63rd edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 57 teams would enter the competition, 33 in the Europe Zone, 12 in the Americas Zone, and 12 in the Eastern Zone. Nigeria made its first appearance in the tournament. South Africa defeated Colombia in the Americas Inter-Zonal final, India defeated Australia in the Eastern Zone final, and Italy and the Soviet Union were the winners of the two Europe Zones, defeating Romania and Czechoslovakia respectively. In the Inter-Zonal Zone, South Africa defeated Italy and India defeated the Soviet Union in the semifinals. India refused to travel to South Africa for the final due to their government's opposition to South Africa's apartheid policies: therefore, the final was scratched and South Africa were awarded the Davis Cup. Vicente Zarazúa
Vicente Zarazúa (born August 27, 1944) is a Mexican former tennis player. He played during the 1960s and 70s, and his best achievement was winning gold medals at the demonstration and exhibition tennis tournaments at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Vicente Zarazúa was born at Tacubaya (Mexico) in 1944. Both his parents, who moved to Mexico City from Guanajuato, were amateur tennis players and took part in interclub competitions, with his mother, Rosario, also winning the national championships. Both his older brothers, Federico and José María, played amateur tennis at the interclub level. Humphrey Hose (born 4 May 1947) is a former professional tennis player from Curaçao who represented Venezuela in the Davis Cup. Biography Hose was born in Curaçao and became there the tennis champion at the age of 18. He moved to Venezuela in 1965 and began representing his adopted country in Davis Cup competition. Luis Baraldi
Luis Fernando Baraldi Briseño (born 21 October 1951) is a Mexican former professional tennis player. Born in Mexico City, Baraldi won Mexico's junior championship in 1969 and played collegiate tennis for Lamar University from 1970 to 1973. He was a member of Lamar University's 1973 Southland Conference championship side.
