1973 DFB-Ligapokal Final
The 1973 DFB-Ligapokal Final decided the winner of the 1972–73 DFB-Ligapokal, a knockout football cup competition. The match was played on 6 June 1973 at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. Hamburger SV won the match 4–0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach for the title. Teams Route to the final The DFB-Ligapokal began with the group stage. Four teams would play each other in a home and away format, with the group winners advancing to the knockout stage. The knockout stage, beginning with the quarter-finals was a knockout cup competition. Teams would play each other home and away, and the winner on aggregate would advance. If tied on aggregate, extra time was used to determine the winner. If still tied, a replay would be necessary. Schwarz-Weiß Essen is a German association football club based in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The side has its origins in the gymnastics club ''Essener Turnerbund'' founded in 1881. Manfred Kaltz
Manfred Kaltz (born 6 January 1953) is a German former football player and manager, who played as a right-back. Kaltz played in the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV and 13 times (one goal) for FC Mulhouse in Ligue 1 after initially joining Mulhouse league rivals Girondins de Bordeaux 1989. He returned to Hamburg the season after, the consequence of the relegation of FC Mulhouse from Ligue 1 at the end of 1989–90. Previously, Kaltz was forced to leave Hamburg, the club for which he had been a professional since the 1971–72 season, after the authorities (e.g. Erich Ribbeck) had decided not to go on with the contract of the long-serving full-back. Rudolf Kargus
Rudolf Kargus (born 15 August 1952) is a German former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career Born in Worms, West Germany, Kargus began playing football with boyhood club Wormatia Worms. Having joined the youth ranks of Hamburger SV in 1970, Kargus stepped up to become a Bundesliga goalkeeper for the North Germans from 1971, capturing the starting role in the goal of Hamburg in 1973. He served as the club's first-choice until Hamburg headed for a change on that position in 1980. In his years with Hamburg he graduated into a goalkeeper as promising as reliable, known for his ability to save penalties (which earned him the ''Elfmetertöter'' nickname). Peter Nogly (born 14 January 1947) is a former German football player and coach. Club career All his 320 West German top-flight matches he made in the Hamburger SV shirt. He played in the North American Soccer League for the Edmonton Drillers and Tampa Bay Rowdies. He was a first team all-star selection in 1981 and 1982, and earned a place on the NASL's 2nd team in 1980. Nogly scored a goal in the finals of the 1983 indoor finals which Tampa Bay won 5–4.
