1973 CONCACAF Championship Qualification
The 1973 CONCACAF Championship qualification consisted of a single round of play. The 14 teams were divided into 6 groups of 2 or 3 teams (four groups with 2 teams and two groups with 3 teams). The teams would play against each other on a home-and-away basis. The group winners would then advance to the tournament. Results Group 1 ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- Mexico advance to the tournament. 1973 CONCACAF Championship
The 1973 CONCACAF Championship, the sixth edition of the CONCACAF Championship, was held in Haiti from 29 November to 18 December. All matches were played at Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince. This is the first edition to double as qualification for the World Cup. Haiti became winners for the first time in the CONCACAF region and qualified for West Germany '74. The North, Central American and Caribbean zone was allocated 1 place (out of 16) in the World Cup. Jimmy Douglas (Canadian Soccer)
Jimmy Douglas (born October 6, 1948 in Falkirk, Scotland) is a former Scottish-Canadian soccer midfielder and head coach. He played professionally in the North American Soccer League and earned fourteen caps for the Canadian national soccer team. Club career Born in Scotland, Douglas moved to Canada in 1964 when he was sixteen. He almost immediately began playing for St. Catharines Heidelberg in the National Soccer League and by 1972 was in the first team. In 1974, he played in the North American Soccer League with the Toronto Metros before returning to St. Catharines Heidelberg for one season and Hamilton Croatia also for one season. In 1977, he played with league rivals Toronto First Portuguese. He signed with St. Catharines Roma for the 1978 season, and was named the team's captain. The Netherlands Antillean Football Union ( nl, Nederlands Antilliaanse Voetbal Unie, or NAVU) was the governing body of football in the former Netherlands Antilles between September 1958 and February 2011. Its jurisdiction consisted of the islands of Curaçao, Bonaire and (until 1986) Aruba. NAVU was established on 5 September 1958 following a merger between Aruba Football Federation (AVB) and Curaçao Football Association (CVB). Brian Robinson (born 1953) is a former Canadian national soccer team player. He was born in Victoria, British Columbia. Club career Robinson started playing at the age of ten with the Evening Optimist Club in his home town and later starred in the Victoria High School team that reached the B.C. High School final in 1966. At 17 he was playing for Vic West in the Victoria City League where he played for two years before joining Victoria United in the Pacific Coast League. By 1970 he was playing in the Western Canada Soccer League for the Victoria Royals and was a member of the WCSL championship team in that year. Enrique David Borja García (born 30 December 1945) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a forward. Borja is the sixth all-time leading scorer of the Mexico national team. Career He played club football for UNAM until his transfer to Club América in 1969. Fernando Bustos Castañeda (1 August 1944 – 23 September 1979) was a Mexican footballer who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics.
