1972–73 FIBA European Champions Cup
The 1972–73 FIBA European Champions Cup was the 16th installment of the European top-tier level professional basketball club competition FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). The Final was held at the Country Hall du Sart Tilman, in Liège, Belgium, on March 22, 1973. It was won by Ignis Varese for the second time in a row. They defeated CSKA Moscow in the finals, by a result of 71–66. Competition system * 27 teams (European national domestic league champions, plus the then current title holders), playing in a tournament system, played knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decided the winner. * The eight teams qualified for the quarterfinals were divided into two groups of four. BC Academic Metropol Region ( bg, БК "Академик" Метропол-Рийджън) is a reestablished Bulgarian professional basketball club based in the capital Sofia. In April 2022, Academic has been reborn and rebranded by the new owners, the german-bulgarian Ex-professional basketball player Viktor Vladov and Georgi Petrov. 237px, Petteri Koponen with Espoon Honka in 2007 Espoon Honka, also known as Honka Playboys, was a basketball club based in Espoo, Finland and it played in Korisliiga. The club was dissolved in 2011 due to financial difficulties. History Espoon Honka was founded in 1975 as a professional team apart from Tapiolan Honka, which worked as a feeder team and took responsibility for organizing youth teams and other activities. Espoon Honka played 16 seasons in the Korisliiga and won seven championship titles. Espoon Honka didn't play in the 2011–12 season of Korisliiga due to financial problems and the whole team was then dissolved later that year. BC Dinamo București or Dinamo Știința București, formerly known as Dinamo-Erbașu or Dinamo Gealan, is a Romanian professional basketball club, based in Bucharest, Romania. Flamingo's Haarlem was a professional basketball team based in Haarlem, Netherlands. Flamingo's played in the Eredivisie from 1960 till 1983, excluding the 1961–62 season. The team won the Dutch championship and NBB Cup four times. The Flamingo's also played at the highest European stage many times: in the 1966–67, 1968–69, 1970–71, 1971–72 and 1973–74 season the team did at least play in the qualifying round. The team was founded in 1954 as Black Pirates by baseball players who before played for several different teams. In its first year they were the city champions of Haarlem and finished third in the national league. The games were played in the Krelagehuis, despite there being no changing rooms and showers. The rent of the hall was so expensive, that the club did not make profit despite high attendance for games. Players of Flamingo's had to pay entrance for the games as well to cover the rent.
