1972 World Outdoor Bowls Championship
The 1972 Men's World Outdoor Bowls Championship was held at Beach House Park in Worthing, England, from 5 to 17 June 1972. Maldwyn Evans won the singles which was held in a round robin format. The pairs Gold was won by Hong Kong, the triples Gold by the United States and the fours Gold went to England. Scotland lifted the Leonard Trophy with just one point more than South Africa and the United States. Cliff R. Stroud (7 November 1920 – 23 April 2015) was an English international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Stroud started bowling in 1954 for the Trowbridge Westbourne club in Wiltshire (outdoors) and the Christie Miller club (indoors). He was an England international from 1967 to 1972 and won the gold medal in the fours at the 1972 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Peter Line, Ted Hayward and Norman King. Gareth Humphreys
Gareth Humphreys (born 1935) is a former Welsh international lawn bowler. Gareth received an MBE in the 2009 Birthday Honours for his voluntary services to lawn bowls. Bowls career He won a bronze medal in the triples at the 1972 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Worthing. In addition he won 15 national titles and 16 county titles and was capped 90 times by Wales from 1963 until 1978. He played for Barry Athletic Bowls Club from 1959 and represented Wales at the Lawn bowls at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in New Zealand. Hugh Simpson Andrews (26 January 1924 – 20 March 2011) was a Welsh international lawn bowler. Douglas Grant Watson (1943-2005), was a South African international lawn bowler.
