1972 Espirito Santo Trophy
The 1972 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 11–14 October at Hindu Country Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was the fifth women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 20 three-woman teams. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States won the Trophy, defending their title from two years ago and winning their four consecutive title, beating France by four strokes. France took the silver medal while Sweden, seven strokes further behind, for the first time on the podium in the championship, took the bronze. Teams 20 teams contested the event. Liv Wollin (née Forsell) (born 17 April 1945) is a Swedish professional golfer, who is regarded as having been one of the best Swedish female amateur players ever. Carol Michelle Walker (born 17 December 1952) is an English professional golfer. Life Walker was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She won the Hovis International in 1972. She turned professional in 1973 and played on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour from 1974 to 1981. Isabella Robertson (née McCorkindale) (born 11 April 1936) is a Scottish golfer who won the British Ladies Amateur in 1981. Robertson represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup as a player on seven occasions and twice as non-playing captain. She was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Dorothy Mary Everard (also Laupheimer, 8 October 1942 – 28 May 2022) was an English amateur golfer. She was runner-up in the 1967 Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship. She won the Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 1970, was twice runner-up, and was runner-up in the 1977 Women's British Open. Early life Varangot was born in Biarritz in the French Basque Country and was a self-taught golfer, who did not take many lessons and did not practice a lot. Marlene Stewart Streit, (born March 9, 1934) is a Canadian amateur golfer, and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. She was born in Cereal, Alberta. She learned golf from Gordon McInnis Sr. at the Lookout Point Golf Club in Fonthill, Ontario. She is the most successful Canadian amateur female golfer, and the only golfer in history to have won the Australian, British, Canadian and U.S. Women's Amateurs.
