1971 Copa Interamericana
The 1971 Copa Interamericana was the 2nd staging of the competition. The final took place between Nacional (Winners of 1971 Copa Libertadores) and Cruz Azul (Winners of the 1971 CONCACAF Champions' Cup) and was staged over two legs on 15 July and 7 November 1972. Since the winning of 1971 Copa Libertadores, some players of Nacional had been transferred, such as Atilio Ancheta, striker Luis Artime and Juan Mujica. Instead of acquiring new players from other clubs, National chose to promote players from the youth divisions to play the series v Cruz Azul. Some of them were Walter Mantegazza, Braulio Castro, Eduardo Gerolami, and Ruben Suárez. Copa Interamericana
The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary. However, it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld. José Miguel Marín
José Miguel Marín Ocotto (15 March 1945 – 30 December 1991) was an Argentine footballer who played as a goalkeeper and as a football coach. He started his career in Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, and became champion with this Argentine team. He then became a Mexican soccer star with Cruz Azul, where he won several championships and became an iconic player. He is widely regarded as one of the best international goalkeepers to play in Mexico. Early life Born on May 15, 1945, in Río Tercero, Córdoba, Marín was of a modest family. He grew up working in the greengrocery stores of his neighborhood. Marín would play in the pastures and use the frame of the trees as goals. Manga (goalkeeper)
Haílton Corrêa de Arruda (born April 26, 1937), best known as Manga, is a Brazilian retired football goalkeeper, famous for playing alongside Garrincha, Nílton Santos and Zagallo in Botafogo of the 1960s, and also for winning the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1971 with Nacional of Cubilla and Artime. He was the starting keeper in the Brazil national team in the 1966 FIFA World Cup. Manga started his career in 1955 in Sport Recife. In 1959 he moved to Botafogo, where he became a national celebrity. In 1966 he was the Brazilian goalkeeper in the 1966 FIFA World Cup. In the 1970s he also played for Sport Club Internacional (where he won two national titles), Coritiba and Grêmio. He also played in Uruguay and Ecuador, where he finished his career at the age of 44. Raúl Cárdenas
Raúl Cárdenas de la Vega (30 October 1928 – 26 March 2016) was a Mexican professional footballer and manager. He represented Mexico at the 1948 Olympics. Playing career Club Born in Mexico City, Cárdenas began playing football with Real Club España, making his Mexican Primera División debut against Asturias F.C. in the 1947–48 season. He would play three seasons with España before the club withdrew from the league. He also competed for Mexico at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Cárdenas played for Guadalajara, C.D.
