1970 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 1970 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 76th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board. The championship began on 17 May 1970 and ended on 4 October 1970. James Stephens were the defending champions. On 4 October 1970, Fenians won the championship after a 2–11 to 3–05 defeat of James Stephens in the final. It was their first ever championship. Nowlan Park
UPMC Nowlan Park (; ) is the principal Gaelic Athletic Association stadium in Kilkenny, Ireland. Named after James Nowlan (the longest serving President of the GAA), the stadium hosts major hurling matches and is home to the Kilkenny hurling team. It opened in 1927 replacing St. James Park. Coon GAA
Coon GAA was a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Coon, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was primarily concerned with the game of hurling. History Hurling had been played in the Coon area since the early 1940s when the arrival of a new schoolteacher resulted in a minor team being established. A new curate arrived in the parish in 1947 and, under his influence, Coon GAA Club was established in 1948. After losing Kilkenny JHC finals to Mooncoin in 1961 and Thomastown in 1962, Coon finally made the breakthrough by capturing the title in 1967. This victory earned promotion to the Kilkenny SHC. Coon lined out in the top flight until regrading to the newly created Kilkenny IHC in 1973. The decision was a successful one as they claimed the title that year. Coon had returned to the junior ranks by the end of the 1970s. Coon amalgamated with the Muckalee/Ballyfoyle Rangers club in 1982, resulting in the creation of the St. Martin's club. Erin's Own GAA (Kilkenny)
Erin's Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 and since then has been the main sporting organization in the Castlecomer area in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Erin's Own fielded teams in 11 different grades of hurling and in 7 grades of gaelic football in 2006, and is currently undertaking major development at its new ground, Canon Kearns Park. With a membership of about 20 adults and about 100 youths the club is in the enviable position of having two properties, the first, The Prince Grounds, in the town, and the second, Canon Kearns Park, on the outskirts of the town, towards Kilkenny. History Erin's Own has enjoyed senior status since 1958, and while the Senior hurling title remains elusive, hundreds of players and supporters have derived great enjoyment from the club over the years.
