The 1970 Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, also known as the 1970 Criterium of the Six Provinces, was the 22nd edition of the cycle race and was held from 19 May to 25 May 1970. Luis Ocaña
Jesús Luis Ocaña PernÃa (; 9 June 1945 – 19 May 1994) was a Spanish road bicycle racer who won the 1973 Tour de France and the 1970 Vuelta a España. During the 1971 Tour de France he launched an amazing solo breakaway that put him into the Yellow Jersey and stunned the rest of the main field, including back to back Tour champion Eddy Merckx, but abandoned in the fourteenth stage after a crash on the descent of the Col de Menté. Ocaña would abandon as many Tours as he entered, but he finished every Vuelta a España he entered except for his first, and finished in the top 5 seven times in a row. Career Early years Ocaña was born in Priego, Cuenca, Spain but his family moved to Mont-de-Marsan ( Landes, France) in 1957. Wim Schepers
Wim Schepers (25 September 1943 – 25 September 1998) was a Dutch professional road cyclist. A professional from 1966 to 1975, he won two stages of the 1970 Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré and finished second in the 1972 Liège–Bastogne–Liège to Eddy Merckx. After the final stage of the 1971 Vuelta a España, Schepers was ranked in second place, 19 seconds behind Ferdinand Bracke, but he was given a ten-minute time penalty for a doping offence, and dropped to 15th. Jan Janssen
Johannes Adrianus "Jan" Janssen (; born 19 May 1940) is a Dutch former professional cyclist (1962–1972). He was world champion and winner of the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España, the first Dutch rider to win either. He rode the Tour de France eight times and finished all but the first time. He won seven stages and wore the yellow jersey for two days (after stage 16 in 1966 and after stage 22B in 1968). He was easily spotted in the peloton because of his blond hair and his glasses. Early life Janssen was born at Nootdorp, a small town near The Hague and Delft, just five days after the Netherlands surrendered to the Nazis. He later moved to Putte, a village on the Belgian border between Roosendaal and Antwerp. Willy Van Neste
Willy Van Neste (born 10 March 1944) is a retired Belgian professional road bicycle racer who competed as a professional from 1966 to 1976. He participated in seven editions of the Tour de France, where he won a stage in the 1967 Tour de France and wore the yellow jersey as leader of the general classification for the following day. Other career highlights include winning the Four Days of Dunkirk in 1970, the Züri-Metzgete in 1972 and Grand Prix de Fourmies in 1967. Hendrik Gerardus Joseph "Joop" Zoetemelk (; born 3 December 1946) is a Dutch former professional racing cyclist. He started and finished the Tour de France 16 times, which were both records when he retired. He also holds the distance record in Tour de France history with 62,885 km ridden. He won the 1979 Vuelta a España and the 1980 Tour de France. He finished the Tour in 8th, 5th, 4th (three times) and 2nd (six times) for a total of eleven top 5 finishes which is also a record. He was the first rider to wear the Tour de France's Polka Dot Jersey as the King of the Mountains and even though he never won this classification in the Tour de France, he did win it in the 1971 Vuelta a España and was considered one of the best climbers of his generation. Georges Pintens (born 15 October 1946 in Antwerp) is a former professional road bicycle racer from Belgium who excelled at one-day classic races during the 1960s and 1970s. Pintens most successful year was in 1971 when he captured the Belgian classic, Gent–Wevelgem, and the overall title at the Tour de Suisse but finished second to Eddy Merckx at Liège–Bastogne–Liège. Cairanne (; oc, Cairana) is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France whose inhabitants were locally nicknamed ''leis afrontaires de Cairana'', the cheeky ones from Cairanne. Aubenas (; oc, Aubenà s) is a commune in the southern part of the Ardèche department in Southern France. It is the seat of several government offices. Privas
Privas (; oc, Privàs , also ) is a city located in France, in the department of Ardèche. With its 8,465 inhabitants (2019), it is the least populated prefecture (capital of a department). It was the location of the 1629 Siege of Privas. Today, Privas is known for the purée made from the local chestnuts, and for its sweetened marron glacé. History The earliest traces of the commune are attested in the hamlet of Lac where recent archaeological excavations have revealed a Roman villa dating to the beginning of the Empire, as well as a medieval burying-ground. Moulds for counterfeiting coinage found in the 19th century on the slopes of Mont-Toulon had not been interpretable as signifying a local centre of population.
