1969 UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The 1969 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championship for track cycling. The events of the men's sprint and the individual pursuit for professionals were held in Antwerp, Belgium the other events took place in Brno, Czechoslovakia. Eleven events were contested, 9 for men (3 for professionals, 6 for amateurs) and 2 for women between 5 and 9 August 1969. Peter Post
Peter Post (12 November 193314 January 2011) was a Dutch professional cyclist whose career lasted from 1956 to 1972. Post competed in road and track racing. As a rider he is best remembered for Six-day racing, having competed in 155 races and won 65. Because of this success he was known as “De Keizer van de Zesdaagse” or “The Emperor of the Six Days”. In road racing his main achievements were winning the 1964 Paris–Roubaix and becoming national road race champion in 1963. He was on the podium three times at the La Flèche Wallonne but never won. Post’s other nickname was “de Lange” or “Big Man” because he was tall for a cyclist. Gives nicknames and birth date. After retiring from racing he had success as a Directeur sportif. Xaver Kurmann (born 29 August 1948) is a retired Swiss amateur cyclist. Peder Pedersen (cyclist)
Peder Pedersen (3 November 1945 – 9 January 2015) was a Danish track cyclist who won a gold medal in the team pursuit at the 1968 Olympics. He also competed in the sprint at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics, but failed to reach the final. He was selected at the Olympic flag bearer for Denmark in 1972. Pedersen won two medals in the sprint at the amateur world championships in 1969–70. After the 1972 Olympics he turned professional and won the 1974 world sprint title, finishing second in 1975. Omar Phakadze
Omar Pkhakadze ( ka, ომარ ფხაკაძე, russian: Омар Пхакадзе; 12 August 1944 – 21 May 1993) was a Georgian sprint cyclist. He competed for the Soviet Union at the 1964, 1968, and 1972 Olympics and finished in fourth and third place in 1968 and 1972, respectively, winning the first Soviet Olympic medal in sprint cycling. In 1965 he also became the first Soviet sprinter to win a world title; he finished third in 1966 and second in 1969. During his career he won 10 national titles – in 1963, 1964 and 1966–1973. He was born in a poor family; his father was handicapped in war and died when Phakadze was 15, leaving his wife with four children. The same year, Phakadze started training in cycling. He retired after the 1972 Olympics and worked as a cycling coach, training the Soviet team between 1978 and 1984 and becoming the first president of the Georgian Cycling Federation. Daniel Morelon
Daniel Morelon (born 24 July 1944) is a retired French racing cyclist who was active between 1963 and 1980. He is a triple Olympic champion, eight times world champion, and a knight of the Legion d'Honneur. Morelon was a police officer before becoming a cycling coach. Klaas Balk
Klaas Cornelis Hendrik Balk (born 27 December 1948) is a retired Dutch cyclist who was active between 1967 and 1974, mostly on track. He competed at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics in three events in total. In 1968, his team failed to reach the final in the 4 km pursuit. In 1972, he finished in fourth and fifth place in the individual sprint and 2 km tandem sprint. He won a bronze medal in the 1 km sprint at the 1969 world championships. Domenico De Lillo
Domenico De Lillo (born 30 August 1937) is a retired cyclist from Italy who specialized in motor-paced racing. In this discipline he won three bronze medals at the world championships in 1967, 1969 and 1971, as well as the national titles in 1959–1961, 1965–1967 and 1969–1971. He was born to Pasquale and Emma De Lillo in Milan. His father was a fan of cycling and took his son to velodroms from the infant age. He started training at the age of 15 but could not ride behind motorcycles because Italian regulations allowed to do so only from age 18. Between 1959 and 1971 De Lillo was the best motor-paced racer in Italy and a strong contender internationally. After retirement in 1976 he stayed with cycling, first as a pacer and then as a functionary.
