Ivar Bern
Ivar Bern (born 20 January 1967) is a Norwegian chess player, most famous for being the seventeenth World Correspondence Chess Champion, 2002–2007. In chess he received the FIDE title of International Master (IM) in 1990. In correspondence chess he earned the ICCF titles of International Master (IM) in 1994 and Grandmaster (GM) in 1996. Biography Bern joined the Norwegian correspondence chess federation in 1986 and won the Norwegian correspondence chess championship in 1988. Qualification to the World Championship started with scoring 10½/16 giving him a third-place finish in a World championship semifinal lasting between 1989 and 1995. Rolf Gupta
Rolf Arvind Gupta (born 14 January 1967 in Uppsala) is a Norwegian contemporary composer and conductor. Career Gupta has studied with Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki as well as with Ilya Musin and Herbert Blomstedt. Gupta also studied composition with Olav Anton Thommessen, Per Nørgård, Antonio Bibalo and Lasse Thoresen at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. 2003 to 2005 saw Gupta acting as the chief conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and he led the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra from 2004 to 2006. As a guest conductor, he has worked with such orchestras as the Oslo Philharmonic, which has performed his work ''Chiaroscuro'' while touring internationally. His achievements include a fourth place at the 1988 Summer Olympics, a sixth place at the world championships, a bronze medal at the European championships, one Nordic title, and eleven Norwegian titles. Nordic Council Literature Prize
The Nordic Council Literature Prize is awarded for a work of literature written in one of the languages of the Nordic countries, that meets "high literary and artistic standards". Established in 1962, the prize is awarded every year, and is worth 350,000 Danish kroner (2008). Eligible works are typically novels, plays, collections of poetry, short stories or essays, or other works that were published for the first time during the last four years, or in the case of works written in Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish, within the last two years. The prize is one of the most prestigious awards that Nordic authors can win. The winner is chosen by an adjudication committee appointed by the Nordic Council. The committee consists of ten members, two each from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
