1967 Netherlands Antilles Island Council Elections
Island council elections were held in the Netherlands Antilles in 1967. They were the fifth elections for the Island Council. Aruba Two parties already present in the Council retained representation in the Island Council; the Aruban People's Party (AVP) and the Aruban Patriotic Party (PPA). In addition, the Aruba National Union (UNA) formed a combined list with the Independent Aruban Party (PIA) and Revolutionary Workers' Party (PRO) under the abbreviation UNA-P.P. Island Council (Netherlands Antilles)
An island council was the governing body of an island territory, an administrative level of the Netherlands Antilles until its dissolution. Aruban People's Party
The Aruban People's Party (AVP; nl, Arubaanse Volkspartij, pap, Partido di Pueblo Arubano) is a Christian-democratic political party in Aruba founded in 1942. AVP is an acronym for the Dutch name of the party. At the 2001 elections, on 28 September 2001, the party won 26.7% of popular votes or 6 out of 21 seats. On 23 September 2005, the party won 38% of the popular vote or 8 out of 21 seats, making it the largest opposition party of the nation. In the 25 September 2009 election, the party came to power, winning 48% of the popular vote and 12 of the 21 seats. It held a majority in the Estates of Aruba obtaining 13 seats. In the 2017 general election the AVP lost four of its thirteen seats in the Parliament of Aruba, with both the AVP and MEP winning 9 seats each respectively, neither party had a majority in Parliament, until the formation of the coalition. Aruban Patriotic Party
The Aruban Patriotic Party (Papiamento: ''Partido Patriotico Arubano'', PPA) is a political party in Aruba. It was founded in 1949. Prior to Aruba's independence, it was a supporter of a unified, independent Netherlands Antilles. In the 2001 Aruban general election, the party won 9.6% of the popular vote and 2 out of the 21 seats. In the 2005 Aruban general election, it won 2.1% of the vote and no seats. Its share of the vote fell to 1.1% in 2009 and 0.9% in 2013. In the 2017 Aruban general election, it rose to 1.1% of the vote while running in conjunction with the Patriotic Progressive Union.
