	1966 Prince Edward Island General Election The 1966 Prince Edward Island general election was held on May 30, 1966. The election in the riding of 1st Kings was delayed until July 11, 1966 due to the death of Liberal Assemblyman and candidate William Acorn. As it turned out, other ridings elected a total of 15 Liberals and 15 Progressive Conservatives, and the riding of 1st Kings would by itself decide the general election. The outgoing Progressive Conservative government attempted to win 1st Kings by resorting to such methods as naming one of the PC candidates (Keith Mackenzie) as Minister of Transports, and paving 30 miles of road in the district. At the time, a reporter from the Charlottetown Guardian commented on how "the riding may well sink under the weight of the avingmachines". The strategy failed as both Liberal candidates in 1st Kings ultimately won, giving the Liberals a 17 to 15 majority and enabling Liberal leader Alex Campbell to become Premier. 	Keir Clark William Keir Clark (May 30, 1910 – November 28, 2010) was a Canadian merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island. 	Lorne Bonnell Mark Lorne Bonnell (January 4, 1923 – October 9, 2006) was a Canadian physician, provincial politician and senator. Born in Hopefield, Prince Edward Island, the son of Lottie and Harry Bonnell, he received his Doctor of Medicine from Dalhousie University in 1949. He practiced medicine in Murray River. In 1951, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island representing the district of 4th Kings. 	Preston MacLure Preston Dalziel MacLure (July 30, 1913 – August 31, 1972) was a Canadian politician and electrician. He represented 3rd Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1966 to 1970 as a Progressive Conservative. MacLure was born in 1913 in Murray Harbour North, Prince Edward Island, but resided most of his life in Montague, Prince Edward Island. He married Margaret Graham in 1936. 	Leo Rossiter Leo Francis Rossiter (January 15, 1923 – October 25, 1996) was a merchant, realtor and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 2nd Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1955 to 1981 as a Progressive Conservative. He was born in Morell, Prince Edward Island, the son of J. Edward Rossiter and Catherine Clarkin, and was educated at Saint Dunstan's University. Rossiter operated a general store and sold farm equipment. In 1946, he married Anna Pierce.
