Thomas Curran (university President)
Thomas B. Curran, SJ is an American Jesuit priest who served as president of Rockhurst University in Kansas City Missouri from 2006 to 2022. He was formerly an associate vice president at Regis University, a Jesuit university in Denver, Colorado. Curran was initially Rockhurst's first non-Jesuit president, having been a member of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. He later entered the Jesuits in 2011 and made final vows in 2015. He also served as the Catholic chaplain for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. He was succeeded at Rockhurst by Sandra Cassady in 2022. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991. After Marshall, Thomas is the second African American to serve on the Court and its longest-serving member since Anthony Kennedy's retirement in 2018. Thomas was born in Pin Point, Georgia. After his father abandoned the family, he was raised by his grandfather in a poor Gullah community near Savannah. Growing up as a devout Catholic, Thomas originally intended to be a priest in the Catholic Church but was frustrated over the church's insufficient attempts to combat racism. Thomas John Curran (April 30, 1924 – July 17, 2012) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Education and career Born in Mauston, Wisconsin, Curran was in the United States Navy during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He received a Bachelor in Naval Science degree from Marquette University in 1945 and a Bachelor of Laws from Marquette University Law School in 1948. He was in private practice in Mauston from 1948 to 1983. Federal judicial service On September 20, 1983, Curran was nominated by President Ronald Reagan to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin vacated by Judge Myron L. Thomas Curran (South Sligo MP)
Thomas Curran (1840 – 13 August 1913) was an Irish nationalist politician from County Donegal who served as an Member of Parliament (MP) for the Anti-Parnellite Irish National Federation in the United Kingdom House of Commons. He was elected as MP for the South Sligo at the 1892 general election, and held the seat until the 1900 general election. His son Thomas Bartholomew Curran (1870–1929) sat in Parliament for the same period, as MP first for Kilkenny City and then for North Donegal. Both father and son owed their election to the Irish National Federation to whom Thomas senior made an unsecured loan of £10,000 to fund their campaign in the 1892 general election. Thomas Kevin Curran (born 12 March 1995), is an English cricketer who represents England in Test matches, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. Tom Curren is an American surfer. Professional career By the time Curren joined the ASP World Tour in 1983, he was competing with professionals such as Rabbit Bartholomew, Shaun Tomson, and Cheyne Horan. He was world champion in 1985, 1986, and 1990, and won 33 championship events in his professional career, the latter being a total only bettered by Kelly Slater. He achieved notoriety for his competitive drive and for his surfing style. He had made a decision to retire from competitive surfing in the mid-1990s. In 1990, at Margaret River, Curren rode a wave all the way from the take-off zone to the Rivermouth, roughly a 1200-foot ride. He then had to walk back to Mainbreak from the Rivermouth to re-enter the surf. Those who saw it say it has never been repeated, in or out of competition. Curren still surfs in contests on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS.) He is also often invited to surf in World Championship Tour (WCT) trials or contests as a wildcard. He has compet ...
