Lu Liang-Huan
Lu Liang-Huan (, 10 December 1936 – 15 March 2022), also known as Mister Lu (Mr Lu) to British golf fans, was a successful Taiwanese golfer who won several important tournaments on the Asian and European circuits between 1959 and 1987. Early life and professional career Lu was born in Taipei. He became the first winner of the Hong Kong Open in 1959, the tournament devised by former Australian Open champion Eric Cremin and featuring, among others, Bob Charles and Kel Nagle. He would become a regular winner on the Far East Circuit, later known as the Asia Golf Circuit, winning his own country's national Open on four occasions and the overall circuit title in 1966 and 1967. He also played on the Japan Golf Tour, winning nine times between 1971 and 1987. Harold Henning
Harold Henning (3 October 1934 – 1 January 2004) was a South African professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Senior PGA Tour. Early life Henning was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. His brothers Allan, Brian, and Graham all became professional golfers. Professional career Nicknamed ''The Horse'', he turned pro in 1953. From 1953–1965, Henning traveled the world playing on international circuits, winning the national championships of Switzerland. South Africa, Italy, and Germany. A win with Gary Player at the 1965 Canada Cup convinced him to play on the PGA Tour. In 1966 Henning won the PGA Tour's Texas Open. However, he was not a PGA Tour member yet and was expected to earn membership at 1966 PGA Tour Qualifying School. Asia Golf Circuit
The Asia Golf Circuit was the principal men's professional golf tour in Southeast Asia from the early 1960s through to the mid-late 1990s. The tour was founded in 1961 as the Far East Circuit. The first series of five tournaments was held in 1962 and consisted of the national open championships of the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, plus a final tournament held in Japan. The tour gradually grew over the subsequent years, eventually becoming a regular ten tournament circuit in 1974. Leading players in the end of season standings were granted exemptions into major tournaments around the world, such as The Open Championship, the U.S. Open and the Memorial Tournament, and in later years were rewarded with playing status on the Japan Golf Tour. Hugh Boyle (golfer)
Hugh F. J. Boyle (28 January 1936 – 23 May 2015) was an Irish professional golfer best known for his achievements in the mid-1960s. Boyle was born in Omeath, County Louth, Ireland. Yomiuri International
The Yomiuri International was a golf tournament held in Japan from 1962 to 1971. It was played at the Yomiuri Country Club in Tokyo. It was an event on the Asia Golf Circuit (formerly the Far East Circuit) every year except for 1964, and served as the season finale. In 1972, the tournament was cancelled by the sponsor, the ''Yomiuri Shinbun'' newspaper, because of political tensions and replaced on the circuit by the Sobu International Open. Peter Thomson won the 1962 event, finishing eight strokes ahead of Canadian Al Balding. Taiwan Open (golf)
The Taiwan Open was the national open golf tournament of Taiwan. It was also known as the Republic of China Open, ROC Open, Chinese Taipei Open, or simply the China Open. It was founded in 1965, and became an event on the Asia Golf Circuit the following year. The Asian PGA Tour was founded in 1995, and the Asian Circuit declined. Frank Phillips (golfer)
Frank Stafford Phillips (24 July 1932 – 2 May 2023) was an Australian professional golfer. He was rated one of the best ball strikers of his era winning the 1957 and 1961 Australian Opens. He was a Life Member of the PGA of Australia from 2002. Phillips was born in Moss Vale, New South Wales on 24 July 1932. In Jack Pollard's book, ''Australian Golf: The Game and the Players'', Phillips is described as "a tall Sydney professional who built an outstanding record in Australian golf in the 1950s and 1960s". Phillips was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours for service to golf. Phillips died at a nursing home in Bowral on 2 May 2023, at the age of 90. Hong Kong Open (golf)
The Hong Kong Open is a golf tournament which is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour. It was founded in 1959 and in 1962 was one of the five tournaments that made up the inaugural Far East Circuit, later known as the Asia Golf Circuit. It remained part of the circuit until 1996, before joining the Asian Tour, then known as the Omega Tour, in 1997. It became co-sanctioned by the European Tour in 2001, as part of the 2002 season. The Hong Kong Open was played in spring from its inception until 1994, but since 1995 has usually been played towards the end of the year, in November or December, and as a result has often fallen into the following year's European Tour season. Since taking its place on the European Tour the event has always been held at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Sheung Shui, New Territories. Malayan Open (golf)
The Malaysian Open is a men's professional golf tournament currently played on the Asian Tour. Notable past winners include world number one golfers Vijay Singh and Lee Westwood (both players winning the event on two occasions). Other notable winners include 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero in 2011 as well as former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen the following year. PGA Tour winners including Harold Henning, Jeff Maggert, Glen Day, Steve Flesch, Arjun Atwal and Noh Seung-yul have also won the event. Since its inauguration there has never been a Malaysian winner.
