Malayan Open (golf)
The Malaysian Open is a men's professional golf tournament currently played on the Asian Tour. Notable past winners include world number one golfers Vijay Singh and Lee Westwood (both players winning the event on two occasions). Other notable winners include 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero in 2011 as well as former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen the following year. PGA Tour winners including Harold Henning, Jeff Maggert, Glen Day, Steve Flesch, Arjun Atwal and Noh Seung-yul have also won the event. Since its inauguration there has never been a Malaysian winner. History The tournament was inaugurated in 1962 as the Malayan Open, and was one of the events on the first season of the Far East Circuit that year. In 1999 it joined the Asian Tour and also became part of the European Tour's expansion into Asia as a jointly sanctioned event. Jeff Maggert
Jeffrey Allan Maggert (born February 20, 1964) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions. Early life Maggert was born in Columbia, Missouri. He was raised on a golf course in The Woodlands, Texas where he attended McCullough High School. Amateur career Maggert attended Texas A&M University. He was an All-American member of the golf team. Professional career Maggert turned professional in 1986. Early in his career he played overseas, especially on the Asia Golf Circuit and PGA Tour of Australia. He had some early success, winning the 1989 Malaysian Open on the AGC and the 1990 Vines Classic on the Australian Tour. Early in 1990, he qualified for the Ben Hogan Tour, the PGA Tour's developmental tour. He was Player of the Year on the Ben Hogan Tour in 1990 where he won two tournaments. Bernd Wiesberger
Bernd Klaus Wiesberger (; born 8 October 1985) is an Austrian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and the LIV Golf Invitational Series. He finished the 2019 season in third place on the Race to Dubai standings, his best finish to date. In July 2015, when he won the Alstom Open de France, Wiesberger became the most successful Austrian golfer on the European Tour with three tour victories. He has since extended his record and is an eight-time winner on the European Tour. He also played in the 2021 Ryder Cup. Amateur career Wiesberger was born in Vienna. The 2015 European Tour is the seventh edition of the Race to Dubai and the 44th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972. Andrew Dodt (born 26 January 1986) is an Australian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, Asian Tour, and PGA Tour of Australasia. He has won twice on the European Tour, in India and Thailand, both events co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour. Amateur career Dodt was born in Queensland, Australia and learned to play golf from the age of four at Gatton Golf Club, close to where he lived. Anirban Lahiri (born 29 June 1987) is an Indian professional golfer. He has played on the Asian Tour, European Tour, PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Lahiri is recipient of the 2014 Arjuna Award. Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), formerly known as Tournament Players Club or TPC Kuala Lumpur, is a golf club located in Mont Kiara. Many of its facilities are open to visitors, including the golf course, driving range, all six F&B venues, bowling centre, Let's Get Fit workout classes, proshop and golf academy. Far East Circuit
The Asia Golf Circuit was the principal men's professional golf tour in Southeast Asia from the early 1960s through to the mid-late 1990s. The tour was founded in 1961 as the Far East Circuit. The first series of five tournaments was held in 1962 and consisted of the national open championships of the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, plus a final tournament held in Japan. The tour gradually grew over the subsequent years, eventually becoming a regular ten tournament circuit in 1974. Leading players in the end of season standings were granted exemptions into major tournaments around the world, such as The Open Championship, the U.S. Open and the Memorial Tournament, and in later years were rewarded with playing status on the Japan Golf Tour.
