The 1965 Volta a Catalunya was the 45th edition of the Volta a Catalunya cycle race and was held from 12 September to 19 September 1965. The race started in Tortosa and finished in Barcelona. The race was won by Antonio Gómez del Moral. Imerio Massignan
Imerio Massignan (born 2 January 1937) is an Italian former professional road cyclist. A pure climber, he debuted as professional in the 1959 Giro d'Italia, classifying 5th overall. This was followed by a series of good placements in the subsequent editions, including a 2nd overall in the 1962 Giro behind Franco Balmamion. At the Tour de France he won the Mountains classification in 1960 and 1961, when he also finished 4th overall. In the latter season he also obtained a second place in the Giro di Lombardia. Massignan retired in 1969. Francisco Gabicagogueascoa Ibarra (31 December 1937 – 7 July 2014) was a professional road bicycle racer between 1961 and 1972. Of his 21 professional victories, Gabica is most famous for winning the 1966 Vuelta a España, besting runnerup Eusebio Vélez and third-place finisher Carlos Echeverría, both compatriots. At the 1968 Vuelta, Gabica captured three mountainous stages to win the climbers classification. Johny Schleck
Johny Schleck (born 22 November 1942) is a former professional cyclist from Luxembourg. Professional life Between 1965 and 1974 Schleck was a professional cyclist. He participated in the Tour de France eight times (1965-1968 and 1970-1973). From 1965 until 1968, he rode in the ''Pelforth - Sauvage - Lejeune'' team, and in the ''Bic''-team from 1969 until the end of his career. Johny rode the Tour de France at the service of 1968 winner Jan Janssen and 1973 winner Luis Ocaña, and also managed to finish in the top 20 of the general classification twice: 19th in 1970 and 20th in 1967. He won a stage in the 1970 Vuelta a España and the Luxembourg National Championships. Johnny's father, Auguste Schleck, also contested events in the 1920s. He also competed in the individual road race at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Hans Junkermann
Hennes "Hans" Junkermann (6 May 1934 – 11 April 2022) was a German professional racing cyclist who won 35 road races in 18 seasons from 1956 to 1973. He won the German National Road Race in 1959, 1960, and 1961. Biography Junkermann was born in St. Tönis, near Krefeld, Rhine Province. He excelled in mountainous stage races and hard one-day events. He won nine Six Day races and the European Madison championship in 1965. He rode the Tour de France eight times. Junkermann showed class as an amateur and was approached twice in 1954 to defect to the GDR and become a paid amateur, but he wanted to stay in West Germany and be a professional. He turned professional in 1955 season for the small Bauer team. In May 1957 he won Züri-Metzgete, followed by fourth in the Tour de Suisse, the start of his excellent record in the Swiss tour, a hilly stage race. Antonio Suárez Vázquez (20 May 1932 – 6 January 1981) was a professional road bicycle racing, road racing cyclist from Spain between 1956 and 1965. He is most famous for winning the General classification, overall title and the King of the Mountains, climbers classification at the 1959 Vuelta a España. In addition, Suarez won the points classification at the 1961 Vuelta and a career total of five stages at the Vuelta.
