The 1965 1. divisjon was the 21st completed season of top division football in Norway. Overview The season was contested by 10 teams, and Vålerengen won their first championship. Vålerenga's 27 points was at the time a record for most points in a season, one more than Lyn achieved in the previous season. Viking and Sandefjord BK were relegated to the 2. divisjon. Eliteserien
Eliteserien () is a Norwegian professional league for association football clubs. At the top of the Norwegian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Norwegian First Division. Seasons run from March to November with each team playing 30 matches (playing each other home and away). Most games are played on Sunday evenings. Eliteserien was founded in 1937 as Norgesserien (English: ''The League of Norway''), and the first season was the 1937–38 season. The structure and name of Eliteserien, along with Norway's other football leagues, has undergone frequent changes. The top level was renamed ''Hovedserien'' in 1948, ''1. divisjon'' (now used by the second level league in Norway) in 1963, then ''Tippeligaen'' (named for the main sponsor) in 1990. Lyn Fotball
Lyn 1896 Fotballklubb () is a Norwegian football club and a department of the sports club Ski- og Fotballklubben Lyn based in Oslo, whose members also participate in Nordic skiing and orienteering. Until 2010, SFK Lyn had two football departments, one professional section and one amateur section. After the professional football department, FK Lyn, was bankrupted in 2010, the fans decided to support the amateur department, Lyn Fotball, instead. With the help of some of the old FK Lyn players, Lyn Fotball has won three consecutive promotions, and are playing in the 3. divisjon. The team plays its home matches at Bislett Stadium, and the head coach is currently Jan Halvor Halvorsen. Lyn was founded in 1896 and is one of the oldest football clubs in Norway. SFK Lyn
Ski- og Fotballklubben Lyn (lit. "Ski and Football Club Lightning") is a Norwegian alliance sports club from Nordre Aker, Oslo. It has two sections; for association football and Nordic skiing. Until 2010 they had a third section, for top-level association football, named FK Lyn. In the skiing is also embedded orienteering, triathlon, and track and field. Lyn has previously also been playing bandy. General history The club was founded as ''IF Lyn'' on 3 March 1896. It originated in St. Hanshaugen, and was a club for boys aged 12 to 14. The first sports were association football (the club was a founding member of the Football Association of Norway in 1902), cross-country skiing and ski jumping. The 1964–65 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup was the seventh Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Stavanger (, , American English, US usually , ) is a city and municipalities of Norway, municipality in Norway. Steinkjer FK is a Norwegian football club from the town of Steinkjer, currently playing in the 3. divisjon, the fourth tier in the Norwegian league system, after being relegated from 2. divisjon in 2011. The club was founded in 1910. Steinkjer played in the top league in 1937–38, 1938–39, 1956–57, 1957–58, 1961–62, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1978. Sarpsborg ( or ), historically Borg, is a city and municipality in Viken county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Sarpsborg. Sandefjord () is a city and the most populous municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The municipality of Sandefjord was established on 1 January 1838. The municipality of Sandar was merged into Sandefjord on 1 January 1969.
