Italian Television
Television in Italy was introduced in 1939, when the first experimental broadcasts began. However, this lasted for a very short time: when fascist Italy entered World War II in 1940 all transmissions were interrupted, and were resumed in earnest only nine years after the end of the conflict, on January 3, 1954. There are two main national television organisations responsible for most viewing: state-owned RAI, accounting for 37% of the total viewing figures in May 2014, and Mediaset, a commercial network which holds about 33%. The third largest player, the Italian branch of Warner Bros. Discovery, had a viewing share of 5.8%. Apart from these three free to air companies, Comcast's satellite pay TV platform Sky Italia is increasing in viewing and shares. According to the BBC, the Italian television industry is widely considered both inside and outside the country to be overtly politicized. Loretta Goggi
Loretta Goggi ( born 29 September 1950) is an Italian singer, actress, comedian and TV host. Goggi is also an acclaimed singer and her records have sometimes entered the Italian pop charts. She was the first runner-up at the 1981 ''Festival della canzone italiana'' with the song '' Maledetta Primavera'', her most famous pop hit. Her sister, Daniela Goggi is an artist as well, with whom she co-founded the music disco act ''Hermanas Goggi'', reaching success in the Latin markets toward the end of the 1970's. In 1973, she co-hosted a Tv show in England with Sammy Davis Jr and performed together with Alighiero Noschese on the Italian television program "Formula Due". Giorgio Albertazzi
Giorgio Albertazzi (20 August 1923 – 28 May 2016) was an Italian actor and film director. Born in San Martino a Mensola, Tuscany, Albertazzi joined the Italian Social Republic and reached the rank of lieutenant. After their defeat, he spent two years in prison for collaborating. Following the amnesty by Palmiro Togliatti he changed from studying architecture to acting. In the theater Albertazzi debuted in Shakespeare's ''Troilus and Cressida'', and over the following decades starred in a number of classics, many of them for television. From the early 1950s he was also seen on the big screen and appeared in more than 50 films. From 1969, he directed several television films, including the miniseries ''George Sand'' in 1981. From 2003, he was the director of the Teatro di Roma. He had a close friendship with actress Anna Proclemer who appeared with him for many years. Carla Gravina (born 5 August 1941) is an Italian actress and politician. She received a Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her role in '' La terrazza'' (1980). Her other notable roles were in ''Love and Chatter'' (1957), ''Esterina'' (1959), and '' The Long Silence'' (1993). Gravina used to be a member of the Chamber of Deputies. Daniele D'Anza (20 April 1922 – 12 April 1984) was an Italian director, playwright and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Milan, D'Anza started his career on stage, in which he is best known for the direction of the antimilitarist play ''Venticinque metri di fango'' that he presented in Milan in 1946 raising several controversities as well as critical appreciation. Another of his works, the rivista '' Tempo di musica'', a satire of Italian history from the 19030s to the 1950s, was heavily censored, being first banned and later allowed only after having received heavy cuts. Scaramouche
Scaramouche () or Scaramouch (; from Italian Scaramuccia , literally "little skirmisher") is a stock clown character of the 16th-century commedia dell'arte (comic theatrical arts of Italian literature). The role combined characteristics of the ''Zanni'' (servant) and the '' Capitano'' (masked henchman), with some assortment of villainous traits. Usually attired in black Spanish dress and burlesquing a Don, he was often beaten by Harlequin for his boasting and cowardice. David Copperfield is the protagonist after which the 1850 Charles Dickens novel ''David Copperfield'' was named. The character is widely thought to be based on Dickens himself, incorporating many elements of his own life.
