1963–64 DDR-Oberliga
The 1963–64 DDR-Oberliga was the 15th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. BSG Chemie Leipzig won the championship, the club's sole national East German championship. Football in Leipzig had been reorganised after the 1962–63 season with the two Oberliga clubs from the city, SC Lokomotive Leipzig and SC Rotation Leipzig, seeing their playing squads merged and then divided up again. The nominally best players were allocated to the new SC Leipzig club, later to become 1. FC Lok Leipzig. The nominally weaker players were allocated to BSG Chemie Leipzig which had its Oberliga place returned it had lost to SC Lokomotive in 1954. The fact that the nominally weaker Chemie squad won the league while SC Leipzig only came third is considered to be one of the greatest upsets in the history of East German football. DDR-Oberliga
The DDR-Oberliga (English: ''East German Premier League'' or ''GDR Premier League'') was the top-level association football league in East Germany. Overview Following World War II, separate sports competitions emerged in the occupied eastern and western halves of Germany, replacing the ''Gauligas'' of the Nazi era. In East Germany, a top-flight football competition, the highest league in the East German football league system, was established in 1949 as the DS-Oberliga (''Deutscher Sportausschuss Oberliga'', German Sports Association Upper League). FC Carl Zeiss Jena
FC Carl Zeiss Jena is a German football club based in Jena, Thuringia. Formed in 1903 and initially associated with the Carl Zeiss AG factory, they were one of the strongest clubs in East Germany from the 1960s to the 1980s, winning the DDR-Oberliga and the FDGB-Pokal three times each and reaching the 1981 European Cup Winners' Cup Final. SV Steinach is a German association football club that plays in Steinach, a town 75 km south of Erfurt in Thuringia. History This small local club was founded on 4 November 1908 as ''FC Steinach''. Play was suspended through World War I and after the war, in 1919, they merged with another football side, ''FC Teutonia''. Wiener Sportclub
The Wiener Sport-Club, sometimes abbreviated as WSC, was established in 1883 in Vienna, Austria and is one of the country's oldest athletics clubs. Their traditional home is in the Dornbach quarter of the city ( 17th district). History At various times throughout its history the club has had departments for fencing, boxing, wrestling, cycling, handball, track and field, field hockey, tennis, squash, football and water polo. The FDGB-Pokal (Freier Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund Pokal or Free German Trade Union Federation Cup) was an elimination football tournament held annually in East Germany. It was the second most important national title in East German football after the DDR-Oberliga championship. The founder of the competition was East Germany's major trade union. ETO FC Győr (''Egyetértés Torna Osztály Futball Club Győr''; ''Concordance Gymnastics Department Football Club of Győr'') or just ETO, is a football club from the city of Győr in Hungary. Klaus Urbanczyk
Klaus Urbanczyk (born 4 June 1940 in Halle (Saale)), nicknamed Banne, is a former East German football player and manager. Urbanczyk began his football career at Turbine Halle in 1948. Beginning in 1960, he played for the team, which was renamed Chemie Halle and later Hallescher FC Chemie – in the DDR-Oberliga. His first Oberliga match was against Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt on 20 March 1960, as a right midfielder. During his career, however, he transitioned to play the position of right defender. He appeared in 250 East German top flight matches (12 goals). At the beginning of the 1960s, Urbanczyk was believed to be one of the best right defenders in the world, on account of his speed and his slide-tackling skills. He played for East Germany between 1961 and 1969. In a survey among managers of the magazine "Deutsches Sportecho", Urbanczyk was voted the best right defender of the 1962–63 season. The title Footballer of the Year (German: ''Fußballer des Jahres'') has been awarded in Germany since 1960. Eligible are German players as well as non-German players playing in Germany.
