John Mitchels entered the championship as the defending champions. John Mitchels GAA (Kerry)
John Mitchels GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. They are based in the Boherbee and Camp area of Tralee. They play in Division 1 of the county league and in the Kerry Senior Football Championship. Club history Before 1927 only one team represented Tralee in the Kerry Senior Football County Championship and they were Tralee John Mitchels. As this team was so successful the Kerry County Board requested that it should be divided into three individual teams representing, Boherbee, Rock St. and Strand St, this is where the John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's clubs came from. The John Mitchels club since 1927 are thought to be one of the most successful clubs in Kerry. Between 1959 and 1963 they won five Senior Football titles in a row, the only team to do so in the history of the Kerry County Championship. Kerins O'Rahilly's are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Tralee, County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. They are based in the Strand Road area of the town. The Kerry Senior Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Garvey’s SuperValu Senior Football Championship) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1889 for the top Gaelic football teams in the county of Kerry in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months, with the county final currently being played in either Austin Stack Park or FitzGerald Stadium in October. Initially played as a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. Austin Stack Park
Austin Stack Park is a GAA stadium in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. It is one of the stadiums used by Kerry GAA's Gaelic football team and the stadium of the hurling team. The ground was named after Austin Stack, an Irish revolutionary and captain of the All-Ireland winning Kerry Gaelic football team of 1904. It is located in the centre of Tralee. Paudie Sheehy
Paudie Sheehy (1932–1967) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with John Mitchels and the Kerry county team from 1953 to 1962. He captained Kerry on two occasions. Early life Sheehy was the son of footballer John Joe and a brother of Seán Óg and Niall. Career Youth Sheehy first lined out for Kerry at a minor level in 1949. He won a Munster Minor Football Championship medal after a final win over Cork. Sheehy's side later qualified for the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship where they faced Armagh.
