1963 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1963 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 75th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 27 January 1963. The championship began on 7 April 1963 and ended on 29 September 1963. Glen Rovers were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by University College Cork in the first round. On 29 September 1963, University College Cork won the championship following a 4-17 to 5-6 defeat of Blackrock in the final. This was their first championship title. Mossie Finn from the St. Finbarr's club was the championship's top scorer with 4-15. Kanturk () is a town in the north west of County Cork, Ireland. It is situated at the confluence of the Allua (Allow) and Dallow (Dalua) rivers, which stream further on as tributaries to the River Blackwater. Christopher O'Shea (1936 - 30 July 2016) was an Irish hurler who played for Cork Championship club St Vincent's. He was a member of the Cork senior hurling team between 1955 and 1957, during which time he usually lined out as a left wing-forward. Billy Galligan
William Galligan (5 January 1937 – 1 February 2023) was an Irish hurler. He lined out with a number of club sides, including Charleville, Lees, Blackrock and Claughaun, and also played at inter-county level with Cork. Career Galligan first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Seán Clárachs side that won consecutive North Cork MHC titles in 1952 and 1953. He progressed to adult level with Charleville, with his performamnces also earning selection for the Avondhu divisional team. Galligan transferred to the Blackrock club in 1960 and won a Cork SHC title after a defeat of Avondhu in the 1961 final. He transferred to the Claughaun club in Limerick in 1969 and won two consecutive Limerick SFC titles as well as a Limerick SHC title in 1971. Carrigdhoun GAA is one of the eight baronies or Gaelic Athletic Association divisions that make up Cork. The division is made up of eleven Gaelic Athletic Association teams, making it one of the smaller divisions. The division is also known as the South East division. It extends from just south of Cork city down to Ballinspittle in the south of the county. Muskerry GAA
Muskerry GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling division located in the middle region of County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork GAA County Board. The division includes clubs from areas to the west of Cork city stretching to the county bounds with Kerry. Its name is derived from the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Múscraige which, following the Norman conquest, now encompasses the baronies of Muskerry West and Muskerry East. Douglas () is a suburb, with a village core, in Cork (city), Cork city, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Passage West GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Passage West, in County Cork, Republic of Ireland. The club fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling. It is a member of the Seandún division of Cork GAA. The club is geographically located in the Carrigdhoun GAA division and was originally a member of it prior to transferring to Seandún following a dispute. Na Piarsaigh GAA
Na Piarsaigh are a hurling and Gaelic football club based in the north side of Cork City, Ireland. History Formation In 1943 a group of idealistic young men drawn mostly from the hurling nursery of North Mon laid the foundations of Cumann Iomana & Peile Na Piarsaigh. The group had its first formal meeting in the presbytery of the North Cathedral. The young men called upon one of their teachers, Donnacha Ó Murchú, for guidance and assistance. This led to him becoming the first ''Uachtarán'' [president] of the club, with Derry Terry serving as ''Runaí'' [secretary] and Paddy Sutton as ''Cisteoir'' [treasurer]. In choosing a name for the club the members sought one which would reflect their aims and ideals.
