Music Of Norway
Much has been learned about early music in Norway from physical artifacts found during archaeological digs. These include instruments such as the lur. Viking and medieval sagas also describe musical activity, as do the accounts of priests and pilgrims from all over Europe coming to visit St Olaf's grave in Trondheim. In the later part of the 19th century, Norway experienced economic growth leading to greater industrialization and urbanization. More music was made in the cities, and opera performances and symphony concerts were considered to be of high standards. In this era both prominent composers (like Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen) and performers combined the European traditions with Norwegian tones. The import of music and musicians for dance and entertainment grew, and this continued in the 20th century, even more so when gramophone records and radio became common. The September When
The September When is a Norwegian rock band. History The band was formed in Stavanger in 1987, by vocalist Morten Abel, guitarist Tor Øyvind Syvertsen and keyboardist Helge Hummervoll, all former members of the band Mods. They signed a recording contract with Warner Music in Norway, and released their self-titled debut album in 1989. The band line-up was broadened by the addition of bassist Gulleiv Wee and drummer Stene Osmundsen before the following tour. Syvertsen left the band the following year, and Morten Mølster took his place. The new line-up released their break-through album ''Mother I've Been Kissed'' in 1991. After releasing two more albums, ''One Eye Open'' in 1993 and ''HuggerMugger'' in 1994, The September When split up in 1996. The same year they released the compilation ''Absolute The September When - Prestige de la Norvège 1989-96''. Nils Einar Vinjor
Nils Einar Vinjor (born 15 December 1962 in Øvre Årdal, Norway) is a Norwegian guitarist known for his solo albums and the collaboration with musicians like Silje Nergaard, Iver Kleive and Knut Reiersrud. Career Vinjor, residing in Oslo, is known in Norway as a central guitarist and composer on the Norwegian musical scene. As a freelance musician Vinjor played together with a number of famous Norwegian performers, and also toured in several European countries and East-Asia. Olaf Kamfjord
Olaf Kamfjord (born December 8, 1962 in Tønsberg, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (double bass and guitar bass) and composer, known from co-operations within bands like "Ab und Zu", "Herrene i haven", "Out To Lunch" and "Roy Nikolaisen Quartet". Career Kamfjord was only 15 years of age when he started to play in a local trio in Tønsberg, led by guitarist Lars Martin Myhre, that later included singer Kari Astrup (Myhre/Astrup kvartett 1980–85). He participated in the "Amatørstorbandet" at Kongsberg Jazz Festival in 1981 and sat in with bands from Oslo the year after. Kamfjord joined the Anne Marie Giørtz Quintet (1982–87), with several festival gigs and album releases, "Breaking out" (1983) and "Tigers of pain" (1985). Ole Evenrud
Ole Evenrud (born November 17, 1962) is a Norwegian pop artist and teenpop producer. He had his big time in the 1980s under the name Ole i'dole. After the 1980s he has operated as a musical producer. He was Head of A&R at Polygram Norway from 1993 until 1998, then became a full-time producer, while being the Head of Universal A&R until 2000. Since, Ole has had success with producing many teen-pop acts, such as A*Teens, Creamy and Little Trees (band), Little Trees. Magne Furuholmen (born 1 November 1962) is a Norwegian musician and visual artist. He was named Knight First Class of the Order of St. Olav by King Harald for his services to Norwegian music and his international success. Furuholmen, better known to music fans by his stage name Mags, is the keyboardist of the synthpop/rock band A-ha, and co-wrote hits such as "Take On Me", " Stay on These Roads", "Manhattan Skyline", " Cry Wolf", " Forever Not Yours", " Analogue (All I Want)", "Minor Earth Major Sky", " Touchy!", " You Are the One", " Move To Memphis" and "Foot of the Mountain". Kjetil Saunes
Kjetil Saunes (born 22 October 1962 in Ulsteinvik, Norway) is a Norwegian musician (bass), composer and songwriter raised in, and still residing in, Oslo. He is known from a series of album releases and collaborations with musicians like Bjørn Eidsvåg, Ketil Bjørnstad, Kjetil Bjerkestrand, Eivind Aarset, Morten Harket and Unni Wilhelmsen. Career Saunes started his musical career as 19 years old, in a band including Kjetil Bjerkestrand, Anders Viken and Eivind Aarset. His main instrument is the bass. He later worked as a studio musician and arranger, next to his own solo career. In the 80s he played with the KGB, a Christian rock band from Hamar. Bendik Hofseth
Bendik Hofseth (born 19 October 1962, in Oslo) is a Norwegian jazz musician, who plays the saxophone and sings. He is also a bandleader, and arranges and composes music. Career When Bendik Hofseth went to New York in 1987, and replaced the world-famous saxophonist Michael Brecker in the band Steps Ahead, it probably came as a surprise to many. A youngster from Lørenskog, Norway in the jazz capital of New York, lining up for one of the most renowned jazz bands in US. Along with Steps Ahead, he has toured worldwide several times since 1987. Hofseth has released seven albums under his own name and has through the years received numerous awards and honors for them. Mads Eriksen (born 12 October 1962 in Bergen, Norway) is a Norwegian guitarist and composer, known as solo artist and for his collaboration with Chris Thompson among others. (in Norwegian) Biography Eriksen was born in Bergen and picked up the guitar at twelve, and started the band "Lorraine" in 1976 together with schoolmates (including keyboardist Hans-Petter Isaksen & bassist Roar Nilson) from Nattland primary school.
