Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. Taça De Portugal
The Taça de Portugal (; "Cup of Portugal") is an annual association football competition and the premier knockout tournament in Portuguese football. For sponsorship reasons, it has been known as Taça de Portugal Placard since the 2015–16 season. Organised by the Portuguese Football Federation since it was first held in 1938, the competition is open to professional and amateur clubs from the top-four league divisions. Matches are played from August–September to May–June, and the final is traditionally held at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, near Lisbon. The winners qualify for the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (or the runners-up, in case the winners are also the league champions) and the UEFA Europa League (unless they already qualify for the UEFA Champions League through league placing). The 1960–61 Primeira Divisão was the 27th season of top-tier football in Portugal. Overview The competition was contested by 14 teams with S.L. Benfica winning the 1960–61 Primeira Divisão championship. It was the eleventh championship title for the club. Benfica also won the 1961–62 European Cup and qualified for the 1961–62 competition. This enabled second placed Sporting CP to also qualify for the European Cup. Leixões S.C. qualified for the Cup Winners' Cup and C.F. Os Belenenses for the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. 1961 Indian Annexation Of Goa
The Annexation of Goa was the process in which the Republic of India annexed ', the then Portuguese Indian territories of Goa, Daman and Diu, starting with the armed action carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in December 1961. In India, this action is referred to as the "Liberation of Goa". In Portugal, it is referred to as the "Invasion of Goa". Jawaharlal Nehru had hoped that the popular movement in Goa and the pressure of world public opinion would force the Portuguese Goan authorities to grant it independence but since it did not have any effect, he decided to take it by force. The "armed action" was code named Operation Vijay (meaning "Victory" in Sanskrit) by the Indian Armed Forces. It involved air, sea and land strikes for over 36 hours, and was a decisive victory for India, ending 451 years of rule by Portugal over its remaining exclaves in India. Viasa Flight 897 was an international scheduled Rome–Madrid–Lisbon–Santa Maria Island (Azores), Santa Maria–Caracas passenger service that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Portugal on 30 May 1961, shortly after takeoff from Portela Airport. There were no survivors among the 61 occupants of the aircraft. Aircraft Named ''Fridtjof Nansen'', the aircraft involved in the accident was a Douglas DC-8-53, Aircraft registration, registration PH-DCL, owned by KLM and operated on Viasa's behalf.
