1959–60 FC Basel Season
The 1959–60 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 66th season in their existence. It was their 14th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football since their promotion from the Nationalliga B the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the Landhof, in the Wettstein Quarter in Kleinbasel. Ernst Weber was the club's new chairman taking over from Jules Düblin after the AGM on 27 May 1959. Düblin presided the club during the period July 1946 until Mai 1959 and in the club's history he is the most permanent president that the club has had to date. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. They have qualified for the Group stages of the Champions League more times than any other Swiss club – a total of seven times – and are the only Swiss club to have ever qualified to the Group stages directly. Servette FC is a Swiss football club based in Geneva, founded in March 1890 with rugby as its first sporting activity, and named after the Geneva district of the same name. The football section was created on 17 January 1900. They play in the Swiss Super League. Gottlieb Stäuble
Gottlieb "Godi" Stäuble (27 April 1929 – 24 April 2015) was a Swiss footballer who played in the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Charles Turin
Charles Turin (born 1 June 1933) is a Swiss former footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played as midfielder. Born in Oberwil, Basel-Landschaft Turin played his youth football by local club FC Oberwil and then moved on to higher classed Concordia Basel. In the summer of 1955 he moved on to play for Biel-Bienne in the Nationalliga B (second highest tier in Swiss football. At the end of the 1956–57 season Turin with Biel won the championship and were promoted. But at the end of the following season they were relegated. At this point Turin joined FC Basel's first team for their 1958–59 season und manager Rudi Strittich. After four test games Turin played his debut for the club in the Swiss Cup home game at the Landhof on 26 October as Basel won 3–0 against local team Old Boys. Fredy Kehrli
Fredy Kehrli (21 September 1935 – 13 October 2008) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played mainly in the position as defender, but also as midfielder. Kehrli first played for Biel-Bienne in the second tier of Swiss football. In the 1956–1957 Kehrli and the team won promotion to the Nationalliga A. But at the end of the season the team suffered relegation. Kehrli then joined FC Basel's first team for their 1958–59 season under manager Rudi Strittich. After playing in three test games, Kehrli played his domestic league debut for his new club in the first game of the season, on 31 August 1958, as Basel were defeated 1–2 by La Chaux-de-Fonds. Fortuna Sittard
Fortuna Sittard (; li, Fortuna Zitterd ) is a football club in Sittard, Netherlands. The club currently plays its football in the 12,500 capacity Fortuna Sittard Stadion and features in the Eredivisie. The club was established through a merger of former clubs Fortuna 54 and Sittardia, which merged as the Fortuna Sittardia Combinatie on 1 July 1968. Antoine Kohn
Antoine "Spitz" Kohn (1 November 1933 – 24 November 2012) was a Luxembourg football player and football manager. Club career Kohn played as a striker, and spent most of his career plying his trade abroad, in Germany, Switzerland, and finally Netherlands, where he later became a successful manager. During his playing days, he earned the nickname "Spitz" for his ferocity and goal-scoring instinct. International career Kohn made his debut for Luxembourg in a September 1953 World Cup qualification match against France, in which he immediately scored a goal. Hermann Suter (footballer)
Hermann Suter (17 April 1920 - 22 August 2005) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel in the 1940s and 1950s. He also played one season for Young Fellows Zürich. He played mainly as a striker, but also as a midfielder. Suter played his youth football by Basel and joined their first team in their 1939–40 season under first team co-managers Walter Dietrich and Max Galler. After appearing in three test matches, he played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the Landhof on 3 December 1939. He scored his first goal in the same game as Basel won 5–0 against Solothurn. During the season Suter played five games in the group stage and four in the championship play-offs. Hans Hügi
Hans Hügi, known as Hügi (I), (29 September 1926 - 1 February 2000) was a Swiss footballer who played twelve years for FC Basel and two seasons for Young Fellows Zürich as defender. Football career Between the years 1947 and 1959 Hügi (I) played a total of 296 games for Basel scoring a total of 56 goals. 226 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 24 in the Swiss Cup and 76 were friendly games. He scored 38 goal in the domestic league, five in the Swiss Cup and the other 14 were scored during the test games. Jean-Louis Gygax
Jean-Louis Gygax (born 17 June 1935) is a Swiss former footballer who played in the 1950s and early 1960s. He played as midfielder. Gygax first played for FC Moutier in 1. Liga, third tier of Swiss football, winning the championship group West in the 1958–59 season but losing the promotion play-offs. Gygax joined FC Basel's first team for their 1959–60 season under manager Jenő Vincze. Paul Speidel
Paul Speidel (born 26 July 1938) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played as a striker. Speidel first played for FC Olten. He joined FC Basel's first team for their 1959–60 season under manager Jenő Vincze. After four test matches, Speidel played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game at the Landhof on 24 April 1960 as Basel won 4–0 against La Chaux-de-Fonds. Speidel scored his first league goal for his club on 16 April 1961 in the away game as Basel won 4–2 against Grasshopper Club. It was the last goal of the match.
