1958 BC Lions Season
The 1958 BC Lions finished the season in fifth place in the W.I.F.U. with a 3–13 record. Head coach Clem Crowe was fired after an 0–5 start to the season and his replacement, former star end Dan Edwards, didn't fare much better, losing his first five games before finally recording a win in a game versus Calgary. All-star guard and linebacker Ed Sharkey on played only five games after sustaining what would be a career-ending neck injury. Canadian Football League West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division (CFL), East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional Canadian football team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Roughriders compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West Division. The Roughriders were founded in 1910 as the Regina Rugby Club. Although Saskatchewan was not the first team to play football in Western Canada, the club has maintained an unbroken organizational continuity since their founding. Paul Leslie Cameron (born August 17, 1932) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive back for one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the eighth round of the 1954 NFL Draft. Edward John Vereb (May 21, 1934 – December 18, 2014) was an American football halfback in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the BC Lions and the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins. He played college football at the University of Maryland and was drafted in the first round of the 1956 NFL Draft. He played 4 seasons with the B.C. Lions, being named an all-star in 1956. Bailey, was a professional American and Canadian football player, primarily as a fullback and defensive back with the Canadian Football League BC Lions. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Bailey is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the B.C. Lions Wall of Fame, and the Washington State University Athletic Hall of Fame. Bailey's #38 jersey is one of eight numbers retired by the B.C. Lions. Albert Richard Dorow (November 15, 1929 – December 7, 2009) was an American gridiron football quarterback. He played college football at Michigan State University and professionally in the National Football League (NFL), the American Football League (AFL), and the Canadian Football League (CFL). George Herring
George W. Herring (June 18, 1933 - November 8, 1994), born in Gadsden, Alabama, was a professional American football quarterback and punter in the American Football League. Herring played with the Denver Broncos in 1960 and 1961. Herring played college football at Jones County Junior College and then transferred to Mississippi Southern in Hattiesburg. Selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixteenth round (184th overall) of the 1956 NFL Draft, Herring signed instead in Canada and threw eight touchdowns to 20 interceptions in two seasons with the B.C. Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 1960, he joined the Broncos at the start of the AFL.
