1951 Aruban General Election
Island council elections were held in the Netherlands Antilles in 1951. They were the first elections for the Island Council, and followed the establishment of the Island Councils of the Netherlands Antilles through the Islands Regulation of the Netherlands Antilles (ERNA). Aruba General elections were held in Aruba in June 1951. Five parties participated: the Aruban People's Party, the Aruban Patriotic Party, the Aruba Independence Party and – following a split in 1949 – a Catholic and Protestant branch of the Aruba National Union. Results Sint Maarten General elections were held in Sint Maarten on 4 June 1951, the island's first elections based on universal suffrage. The result was a victory for the National People's Party, which won four of the five Island Council seats. An island council was the governing body of an island territory, an administrative level of the Netherlands Antilles until its dissolution. The Islands Regulation of the Netherlands Antilles (, ERNA; , RIAH) described the autonomy of the island territories of the Netherlands Antilles. Aruban People's Party
The Aruban People's Party (AVP; nl, Arubaanse Volkspartij, pap, Partido di Pueblo Arubano) is a Christian-democratic political party in Aruba founded in 1942. AVP is an acronym for the Dutch name of the party. At the 2001 elections, on 28 September 2001, the party won 26.7% of popular votes or 6 out of 21 seats. On 23 September 2005, the party won 38% of the popular vote or 8 out of 21 seats, making it the largest opposition party of the nation. In the 25 September 2009 election, the party came to power, winning 48% of the popular vote and 12 of the 21 seats. It held a majority in the Estates of Aruba obtaining 13 seats. The Aruban Patriotic Party ( Papiamento: ''Partido Patriotico Arubano'', PPA) is a political party in Aruba. It was founded in 1949. Prior to Aruba's independence, it was a supporter of a unified, independent Netherlands Antilles. In the 2001 Aruban general election, the party won 9.6% of the popular vote and 2 out of the 21 seats. In the 2005 Aruban general election, it won 2.1% of the vote and no seats. Its share of the vote fell to 1.1% in 2009 and 0.9% in 2013. In the 2017 Aruban general election, it rose to 1.1% of the vote while running in conjunction with the Patriotic Progressive Union. The Democratic Party ( pap, Partido Democraat, nl, Democratische Partij) is a liberal party in Curaçao founded in 1944. The party has participated in elections for the Estates of the Netherlands Antilles (Curaçao constituency) and the Island Council of Curaçao until the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010, obtaining a single seat in the island council in 2007. By obtaining 1019 registrations of support, the party qualified (a minimum of 743 was required) for participation in the Curaçao General Election of 2012 on 19 October in a combined list with Laboral named Partido Democrat Laboral, where it obtained 1.2% of the votes but failed to obtain any seats.
