Rhee Syng-man
Syngman Rhee (, ; 26 March 1875 – 19 July 1965) was a South Korean politician who served as the first president of South Korea from 1948 to 1960. Rhee was also the first and last president of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea from 1919 to his impeachment in 1925 and from 1947 to 1948. As President of South Korea, Rhee's government was characterised by authoritarianism, limited economic development, and in the late 1950s growing political instability and public opposition. Authoritarianism continued in South Korea after Rhee's resignation until 1988, except for a few short breaks. Born in Hwanghae Province, Joseon, Rhee attended an American Methodist school, where he converted to Christianity. He became involved in anti-Japanese activities after the 1894–95 First Sino-Japanese War and was imprisoned in 1899. Yi Si-yeong
Seongjae Yi Si-yeong (Chosŏn'gŭl: 이시영; Hanja: 李始榮, December 3, 1868 – April 19, 1953) was a Korean politician, independence activist, educator and neo-Confucianist scholar. He was the first vice president of South Korea from 1948 to 1951.''Hanguksa daesajeon'' (한국사대사전 Encyclopedia of Korean history) (2004), Goryeo chulpansa (고려출판사), p.1039 Yi resigned after the National Defense Corps incident of 1951. Yi Pom-sok
Lee Beom-seok (October 20, 1900 – May 11, 1972) was a Korean independence activist and the first prime minister of South Korea from 1948 to 1950. He also headed the Korean National Youth Association (조선민족청년단, 朝鮮民族靑年團). His nickname was Cheolgi. Biography Lee Beom-seok was born in Gyeongseong (now Seoul) on October 20, 1900. Lee's father was an officer in the Joseon Dynasty and he was a descendant of Sejong the Great's son 'Gwangpyeong Daegun ()'. Lee Beom-seok was exiled to the Republic of China after participating in independence activities as a teenager. In 1919, he started studying at the Shinheung military academy (), a military school whose goal was to build a new army to fight for independence. Soon after, Lee fought in the Battle of Cheongsanni, a six-day engagement in eastern Manchuria. Shin Song-mo
Shin Song-mo or Shin Sung-mo ( ko, 신성모, October 20, 1891 – May 29, 1960) was an acting prime minister in 1950 following the first prime minister of South Korea, Lee Beom-seok. He served as a Defence Minister during the Korean War. Biography Early life In 1891, he was born in Uiryeong, Gyeongsang-do, Joseon (now Uiryeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea), as the son of Jae rok Lee. In 1907, he entered the night class at the Department of Law at Bosung College, and graduated from Boseong Law College in 1910 (4 years in Yonghee). In August 1910, he fled to Vladivostok and joined into the anti-Japanese independence movement under the guidance of Shin Chae-ho and his hometown leader, Ahn Hee-je. From 1930, he became the captain of a regular ferry to and from London and India. Chang Myon
Chang Myon (hangul: 장면; hanja: 張勉; August28, 1899June4, 1966) was a South Korean statesman, educator, diplomat, journalist and social activist as well as a Roman Catholic youth activist. He was the only prime minister of the parliamentary Second Republic. In addition, during the First Republic he was the fourth and last vice president of South Korea. His styled name ('' ho'') was Unseok (운석, 雲石). His English name was John Chang Myon (baptismal name, surname, given name). Under Japanese rule, Chang worked in education as a school teacher, administrator, and principal. In 1948, he led the delegation of the Republic of Korea to the UN General Assembly. Seok Cheoljoo or Suk Chul-Joo (born August 21, 1950) is a South Korean painter and professor. He studied oriental painting in Chugye University for the Arts and art education in the graduate school of Dongguk University Dongguk University (Korean: 동국대학교, Hanja: 東國大學校) is a private, coeducational university in South Korea, fundamentally based on Buddhism. Established in 1906 as Myeongjin School (명진학교; 明進學校) by Buddhist pioneers .... He is now a professor in Chugye University for the Arts. He started to learn how to draw from well-known artist Lee Sang-beom when he was 16 years old, but did not enter university at the age of 27.
