Syngman Rhee (, ; 26 March 1875 – 19 July 1965) was a South Korean politician who served as the first president of South Korea from 1948 to 1960. Rhee was also the first and last president of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea from 1919 to his impeachment in 1925 and from 1947 to 1948. As President of South Korea, Rhee's government was characterised by authoritarianism, limited economic development, and in the late 1950s growing political instability and public opposition. Authoritarianism continued in South Korea after Rhee's resignation until 1988, except for a few short breaks. Born in Hwanghae Province, Joseon, Rhee attended an American Methodist school, where he converted to Christianity. He became involved in anti-Japanese activities after the 1894–95 First Sino-Japanese War and was imprisoned in 1899. Yi Si-yeong
Seongjae Yi Si-yeong (Chosŏn'gŭl: 이시영; Hanja: 李始榮, December 3, 1868 – April 19, 1953) was a Korean politician, independence activist, educator and neo-Confucianist scholar. Yi Pom-sok
Lee Beom-seok (October 20, 1900 – May 11, 1972) was a Korean independence activist and the first prime minister of South Korea from 1948 to 1950. He also headed the Korean National Youth Association (조선민족청년단, 朝鮮民族靑年團). His nickname was Cheolgi. Biography Lee Beom-seok was born in Gyeongseong (now Seoul) on October 20, 1900. Lee's father was an officer in the Joseon Dynasty and he was a descendant of Sejong the Great's son 'Gwangpyeong Daegun ()'. Lee Beom-seok was exiled to the Republic of China after participating in independence activities as a teenager. In 1919, he started studying at the Shinheung military academy (), a military school whose goal was to build a new army to fight for independence. Soon after, Lee fought in the Battle of Cheongsanni, a six-day engagement in eastern Manchuria. Committee For The Five Northern Korean Provinces
The Committee for the Five Northern Korean Provinces (, literally "The North's Five Provinces Committee") is a South Korean government body under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. History Established in 1949, the committee is officially responsible for the administration of the five Korean provinces located entirely north of the Military Demarcation Line, as the South Korean government formally claims to be the sole legitimate government of whole of Korea. The South Korean government does not recognise any changes to the borders of the provinces made by North Korea since its establishment. The President of South Korea appoints governors for each of the five provinces. However, their role is largely symbolic (compare with titular bishops), as the territory is under the effective jurisdiction of North Korea. Hyun Jae-hyun
Hyun Jae-Hyun (born February 12, 1949) is chairman of Tongyang Group, a South Korean conglomerate founded in 1957 as a cement manufacturer. Career Starting in the mid-1980s, Hyun began diversifying the Tongyang Group's business structure, and by 1989, he re-introduced Tongyang into the business community as a finance-based service provider. Today, in addition to being the second largest cement manufacturer in Korea, Tongyang offers a comprehensive range of financial services that include securities brokerage, investment banking, asset management and life insurance. He was arrested on January 14, 2014 on suspicions of fraudulent sales of corporate bonds and commercial papers. In 2014 he was jailed for 12 years for fraud.
