80th United States Congress
The 80th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, DC from January 3, 1947, to January 3, 1949, during the third and fourth years of Harry S. Truman's presidency. The apportionment of seats in this House of Representatives was based on the Sixteenth Census of the United States in 1940. The Republicans won the majority in both chambers, marking the first time since the 71st Congress they held full control of Congress, and the first time since the 72nd Congress they held either of the two chambers. William Lee Knous
William Lee Knous (February 2, 1889 – December 12, 1959) was an American attorney serving as Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court, the 31st Governor of Colorado and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. The National Governors Association states that he is the only person "to have occupied the highest seat in the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of government" in Colorado. Benjamin Travis Laney, Jr. (November 25, 1896January 21, 1977), was an American businessman who served as the List of governors of Arkansas, 33rd governor of Arkansas from 1945 to 1949. Life and career Laney was born in Camden, Arkansas, Camden, where he attended Ouachita County, Arkansas, Ouachita County Public school (government funded), public schools but never graduated from high school. Dan Edward Garvey (June 19, 1886 – February 5, 1974) was an American businessman, politician and the ninth secretary of state of Arizona from 1942 to 1948 under Sidney Preston Osborn and the eighth governor of Arizona from 1948 to 1951. James Elisha Folsom, Sr. (October 9, 1908 – November 21, 1987), commonly known as Jim Folsom or Big Jim Folsom, was an American politician who served as the 42nd governor of the U.S. state of Alabama, having served from 1947 to 1951, and again from 1955 to 1959.
