Professional Wrestling
Professional wrestling is a form of theater that revolves around staged wrestling matches. The mock combat is performed in a ring similar to the kind used in boxing, and the dramatic aspects of pro wrestling may be performed both in the ring or—as in televised wrestling shows—in backstage areas of the venue, in similar form to reality television. Professional wrestling as a form of theater evolved out of the widespread practice of match fixing among wrestlers in the early 20th century. Rather than sanction the wrestlers for their deceit as was done with boxers, the public instead came to see professional wrestling as a performance art rather than a sport. Katie Glass (born June 1, 1944) is a retired professional wrestler, better known by her ring name "Diamond Lil". Professional wrestling career Glass was trained by The Fabulous Moolah at her wrestling school in South Carolina. She first appeared at Moolah's door in 1961 at the age of seventeen, wanting to be trained as a professional wrestler. Moolah would not accept Glass until her mother signed a permission slip. Due to Moolah's love of diamonds and Glass's small stature, she was given the ring name ''Diamond Lil''. Throughout the 1960s, Glass frequently wrestled against fellow female midget wrestler Darling Dagmar. Víctor Rivera (born May 25, 1944) is a retired Puerto Rican professional wrestler. Between 1967 and 1981, he held the NWA Americas Tag Team Championship 12 times, the NWA Americas Heavyweight Championship five times, the WWF International Tag Team Championship, and numerous other titles. Professional wrestling career In the late 1960s, Rivera wrestled in Los Angeles' Worldwide Wrestling Associates (which later became NWA Hollywood Wrestling in 1968), where he won the WWA World Tag Team Championship with Pedro Morales. Robert "Bob" Eugene Bruggers (born April 20, 1944) is an American retired American football player and professional wrestler. Bruggers played as a linebacker for five seasons for the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL). Jagjeet Singh Hans (born April 3, 1944) is an Indo-Canadian semi-retired professional wrestler, known better by his ring name Tiger Jeet Singh. He was known for his elaborate ring entrances, and generally performed as a heel. He wrestled in Japan for 22 years and was the first professional wrestler in Japan to defeat sumo wrestler Wajima Hiroshi. Larry Davies (1944 – 30 June 1997) was an Australian professional wrestler best known as Larry O'Dea. He was one half of the tag team known as "The Australians" with Ron Miller. Larry made his professional wrestling debut in the 1960s for George Gardiner Promotions in Australia then soon left for New Zealand before joining World Championship Wrestling in 1964. In 1971 Davies started teaming up with Ron Miller as one-half of the tag team "The Australians" touring the United States and in 1973 he went on a tour of Japan with All Japan Pro Wrestling Davies became a co-owner of Australian wrestling company WCW Australia along with Ron Miller in 1974 up until 1978. Laurence Roy Heffernan (12 July 1925 – 24 September 1992) was an Australian professional wrestling, professional wrestler. Roy Heffernan toured all over the world, but is most famous for being one half of the original version of the tag team the Fabulous Kangaroos (with Al Costello). The Kangaroos used an "Ultra Australian" List of professional wrestling slang#G, gimmick complete with Boomerangs, Slouch hat, bush hats and "Waltzing Matilda" as their entrance music. The first incarnation of the Kangaroos is the most famous of all the Kangaroo versions and is often credited with popularizing tag team wrestling in the late 1950s and 1960s. Walter Kowalski (born Edward Władysław Spulnik; October 13, 1926 – August 30, 2008), known professionally as Killer Kowalski, was a Polish-Canadian professional wrestler. Kowalski wrestled for numerous promotions during his career, including the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and World Wide Wrestling Federation ( WWWF, now WWE), and was a known villain professional wrestler.
