1942–43 French Rugby Union Championship
The 1942-43 French Rugby Union Championship was won by Bayonne that beat Agen in the final.. After three seasons of non official competitions, the FFR made the decision on 5 June 1942, to restart to play the championship. At the championship participated: * 40 teams from German Army occupation zone * 55 teams from France not occupied. After the occupation of the second zone by the German Army, in November, the FFR changed the denominations in "Zone North" and "Zone South". The Top 14 () is a professional rugby union club competition that is played in France. Created in 1892, the Top 14 is at the top of the national league system operated by the French National Rugby League, also known by its French initialism of LNR. There is promotion and relegation between the Top 14 and the next level down, the Rugby Pro D2. The fourteen best rugby teams in France participate in the competition, hence the name Top 14. The competition was previously known as the Top 16. Guy Basquet was a French rugby union player, born 13 July 1921 in Layrac and died 1 February 2006 in Agen. He was 1 m 81 and weighed 102 kg, he played third line centre and left flank for SU Agen Lot-et-Garonne, Agen. He started out as a basketball player, but rapidly succeeded in the Juniors of Racing Métro 92 Paris, Racing Metro, and moved to Agen during the Second World War, (around 1940), the town where he would stay for the rest of his career, until 1953. During the championship final of 1947, he was temporarily sent off during the second half of the first period, a rule which was not rescinded for a further two decades. He played at Agen alongside Albert Ferrasse, then followed him as head of the French Rugby Federation, FFR, and of the club. Jean Dauger ( Cambo-les-Bains, 12 November 1919 – 12 October 1999) was a French rugby union and rugby league footballer. He played as a centre. He was nicknamed ''Manech'', which is a Lower Navarre Basque translation of his given name. Career Dauger first started his career at 17 years, as first-choice for Bayonne in 1936 while he was working locally at the cadastre. In 1938, he shifts to the semi-professionalism of rugby league, playing for RC Roanne XIII alongside Robert Samatan and Max Rousié while working for the Devernois factory, not appreciating the pseudo-amateur mores of the championship at the time. He was considered by the rugby league literature as "an attack prince" , "an exceptional back with dazzling start-up and an ultra-developed sense of game".
