1937 Michigan State Spartans Football Team
The 1937 Michigan State Spartans football team represented Michigan State College as an independent during the 1937 college football season. In their fifth season under head coach Charlie Bachman, the Spartans compiled an 8–2 record and won their annual rivalry game with Michigan by a 19 to 14 score. In inter-sectional play, the team defeated Kansas (16–0), Temple (13–6), Carnegie Tech (13–6), and San Francisco (14–0), but lost to Manhattan (3–0) and Auburn (6–0 in the 1938 Orange Bowl). Halfback John Pingel was selected by the Associated Press (AP) as a second-team player, and by the International News Service (INS) and Central Press Association as a third-team player, on the 1937 College Football All-America Team. Pingel was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Charlie Bachman
Charles William Bachman Jr. (December 1, 1892 – December 14, 1985) was an American college American football, football player and head coach. Bachman was an Illinois native and an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, where he played college football. He served as the head football coach of Northwestern University, Kansas State University, Kansas State College, the University of Florida, Michigan State University, Michigan State College, and Hillsdale College. Bachman was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1978. Early life and education Bachman was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1892. Vevay Township is a civil township of Ingham County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,537 at the 2010 census. The township is part of the Lansing–East Lansing metropolitan area and mostly surrounds the city of Mason, but the two are administered autonomously. History The area was first surveyed as early as 1824, and the current eastern boundary of the township is along the Michigan meridian. The township was first settled in 1836 by the Rolfe family. The Michigan legislature approved the creation of Vevay Township from a portion of Aurelius Township on March 6, 1838. The township received its name from Vevay, Indiana. Faurot Field ( , ) at Memorial Stadium is an outdoor sports stadium in Columbia, Missouri, United States, on the campus of the University of Missouri. It is primarily used for football and serves as the home field for the Missouri Tigers' program. It is the third-largest sports facility by seating capacity in the state of Missouri, behind The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis and Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The team compiled a 3–6–1 record (2–2–1 against Big 6 opponents), finished in fourth place in the Big 6, and was outscored by all opponents by a combined total of 64 to 42. Don Faurot was the head coach for the third of 19 seasons. The team played its home games at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Missouri. Ebbets Field was a Major League Baseball stadium in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York.
