Allan Chumak
Allan Vladimirovich Chumak (Russian: А́ллан Влади́мирович Чума́к, 26 May 1935 – 9 October 2017) was a Russian faith healer who came to prominence at the height of Gorbachev's Perestroika. When he appeared on television, his fans would hold jars of water next to their televisions in the hope that the water would be able to cure disease. At the height of his fame, he had a regular early morning television spot. Chumak's performances typically followed a set formula. First he would state the malady that the program was intended to address, for example allergies and respiratory disorders. The disease would be explained as a disruption of the body's internal harmony. Gary Berkovich, AIA, NCARB (born May 26, 1935, in Kharkiv, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union) is an American and Soviet architect, and the first Soviet architect of 1960s – 1980s immigration wave, who had opened his office (Gary A. Berkovich Associates, 1987) in the United States. Author of about 200 projects of residential and public buildings in the USSR and in the USA. He is a winner of the architectural competitions in the Soviet Union and in the United States. He is also an author of books and professional articles. Andrey Zaliznyak
Andrey Anatolyevich Zaliznyak ( rus, Андре́й Анато́льевич Зализня́к, p=zəlʲɪˈzʲnʲak; 29 April 1935 – 24 December 2017) was a Soviet and Russian linguist, an expert in historical linguistics, accentology, dialectology and grammar. Doctor of Philological Sciences (1965, while defending his Candidate thesis). In his later years he paid much attention to popularization of linguistics and the struggle against pseudoscience. Biography Zaliznyak was born in Moscow and studied in the Moscow University before moving to the Sorbonne to further his studies with André Martinet. He was admitted into the Soviet Academy of Sciences as a corresponding member in 1987. Ten years later, he was elected a full academician. Zaliznyak's first monograph, ''Russian Nominal Inflection'' (1967), remains a definitive study in the field. Leonid Shebarshin
Leonid Vladimirovich Shebarshin (russian: Леонид Владимирович Шебаршин; 24 March 1935 – 30 March 2012) became head of the First Chief Directorate of the KGB in January 1989, when the former FCD chief, Vladimir Kryuchkov, was promoted to KGB chief. Prior to that, Shebarshin had served as Kryuchkov's deputy from April 1987. Early life After graduating in 1952 from high school with a silver medal, Shebarshin entered the Indian branch of the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies. When the institute closed in 1954, he was transferred to the third year of Faculty of Oriental Studies MGIMO. In 1957, he married a classmate, a student of the Chinese Branch Nina Vassilyevna Pushkina. Upon graduation, in October, 1958, he was assigned to work as a referent at the USSR Embassy in Pakistan. Vladimir Aksyonov
Vladimir Viktorovich Aksyonov (Russian: Влади́мир Ви́кторович Аксёнов) is a former Soviet cosmonaut. Aksyonov was born in Giblitsy in the Kasimovsky District, Ryazan Oblast, Russian SFSR, on February 1, 1935. Education and Career Aksyonov graduated from the Institute of Engineering with a diploma from the Air Force Institute called Polytechnical Institute. He was a candidate for technical science. Aksyonov was selected to be a cosmonaut on March 3, 1973. He flew as Flight Engineer on Soyuz 22 and Soyuz T-2. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on two occasions. He retired on October 17, 1988. Aksyonov is currently the director of the institute for research of Russian mineral resources. He is married and has two children. Yuri Zhuravlyov (mathematician)
Yuri Ivanovich Zhuravlyov (russian: Юрий Иванович Журавлёв; 14 January 1935 – 14 January 2022) was a Soviet and Russian mathematician specializing in the algebraic theory of algorithms. His research in applied mathematics and computer science was foundational for a number of specialties within discrete mathematics, pattern recognition, and predictive analysis. Zhuravlyov was a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the chairman of its "Applied Mathematics and Informatics" section. Valeri Kubasov
Valery Nikolaevich Kubasov (russian: Вале́рий Никола́евич Куба́сов; 7 January 1935 – 19 February 2014) was a Soviet/Russian cosmonaut who flew on two missions in the Soyuz programme as a flight engineer: Soyuz 6 and Soyuz 19 (the Apollo–Soyuz mission), and commanded Soyuz 36 in the Intercosmos programme. On 21 July 1975, the Soyuz 7K-TM module used for ASTP landed in Kazakhstan at 5:51 p.m. and Kubasov was the first to exit the craft. Kubasov performed the first welding experiments in space, along with Georgy Shonin. Kubasov was also involved in the development of the Mir space station. He retired from the Russian space program in November 1993 and was later deputy director of RKK Energia. Kubasov evaded death twice during his space career.
