1934 Tour Of Flanders
The 18th edition of the Tour of Flanders cycling classic race was held on Sunday, 18 March 1934. Belgian Gaston Rebry won the Monument. Of the 158 starting cyclists, 48 reached the finish. Route The race started in Ghent and covered 239 km on the way to the finish in Wetteren. Gaston Rebry
Gaston Rebry (29 January 1905 – 3 July 1953) was a Belgian former champion road racing cyclist between 1928 and 1935. In 1934, Rebry became the third of nine riders to win the Tour of Flanders and Paris–Roubaix in the same year; he also won Paris–Nice that year. Rebry won Paris–Roubaix three times. He also won four stages of the Tour de France. His son, Gaston Rebry (painter), Gaston Rebry (1933–2007), was also a road-racing cyclist in the 1950s but moved to Canada in 1954 to become a landscape painter. Alcyon-Dunlop
Alcyon was a French professional cycling team that was active from 1905 to 1959, and returned in 1961 and 1962. It was started by Alcyon, a French bicycle, automobile and motorcycle manufacturer. History The team won the Tour de France four times before World War I with François Faber in 1909, Octave Lapize in 1910, Gustave Garrigou in 1911 and Odile Defraye in 1912. Alcyon won the team prize at the Tour de France from 1909 to 1912 and then from 1927 to 1929. Immediately after the First World War, Alcyon like many other bicycle companies joined a Consortium that employed many riders under the La Sportive name. This consortium would win the Tour de France from 1919 to 1921. The Consortium stopped in 1922 and the member companies which included Automoto, Peugeot and Alcyon restarted up their separate cycling teams. Genial (Latin ''Genialis'' or ''Genealis'') was the Duke of Gascony (''Vasconia'') in the early seventh century. He is mentioned in the ''Chronicle of Fredegar''. Edelareberg
Edelareberg is a hill in Oudenaarde, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. With its top at 80 m, it is one of the many hill formations in the Flemish Ardennes. The top of the Edelareberg is in the village of Edelare, from which the hill takes its name. Colloquially, it is also called ''Kerselareberg'', after Kerselare, the small hamlet which is now part of Edelare. The road was asphalted in the late 1960s and is now a broad and gently rising road, part of the N8 road connecting Oudenaarde and Brakel. The steepest slopes are 7% towards the top of the climb. Cycling The hill is best known from cycling, as it is one of the many climbs in the Flemish Ardennes featuring in the spring classics. The climb has been included 35 times in the Tour of Flanders. In the early years of the race it was one of a classic trio of climbs, together with the Kwaremont and Kruisberg, called the ''dromedaries''.
