A referendum on the Insurance Law was held in Latvia on 24 and 25 February 1934.Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p1122 The referendum was initiated by the Latvian Social Democratic Workers' Party and its supporters and asked voters whether they approved of the law "On Provision in cases of old age, disability and unemployment", more commonly known as the Insurance Law.Nohlen & Stöver, p1135 The law would provide social protection for the elderly, disabled and unemployed. Saeima
The Saeima () is the parliament of the Latvia, Republic of Latvia. It is a unicameral parliament consisting of 100 members who are elected by proportional representation, with seats allocated to political parties which gain at least 5% of the popular vote. Elections are scheduled to be held once every four years, normally on the first Saturday of October. The most recent elections were held in 2022 Latvian parliamentary election, October 2022. The President of Latvia can dismiss the Saeima and request early elections.
