Dick Nash
Richard Taylor Nash (born January 26, 1928) is an American jazz trombonist most associated with the swing and big band genres. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and began playing brass instruments at ten. He became more interested in this after his parents died, and he was sent to Kurn Hattin Homes for Children in Vermont. At Kurn Hattin Homes, the first instruments he studied were the trumpet and bugle. His first professional work came in 1947 with bands like that of Tex Beneke. He served in the California National Guard from 1950 to 1952 and played for a band. After his discharge from the military, he went back to Boston, where he attended Berklee College of Music. He then joined Billy May's band. Later he became a first-call studio musician in Los Angeles, California. He was composer, conductor Henry Mancini's favorite trombonist, and was featured soloist on several Mancini soundtracks, beginning with '' Mr. Lucky'' and ''Peter Gunn''. David Black (January 23, 1928 in PhiladelphiaDecember 4, 2006) was an American jazz drummer who is most notable for his work with Duke Ellington from 1953 to 1955. Prior to that, Black had been the drummer in the house band at the Philadelphia Blue Note Jazz Club where he played with the likes of Charlie Parker, Buddy DeFranco and Zoot Sims. Werner Dies
Werner Dies (January 15, 1928, Frankfurt - February 5, 2003) was a German jazz tenor saxophonist, clarinetist, guitarist, composer, and arranger. Dies was an autodidact on guitar and saxophone, and studied clarinet and composition starting in 1947. From 1947 to 1955 he played guitar in the dance band of Willy Berking, and was a member of the bands Hotclub Combo and Two Beat Stompers. He also led his own ensemble, which went on a tour of Yugoslavia in 1955. From 1955 to 1965 he was a member of Hazy Osterwald's sextet, and also worked as a session musician and arranger. He toured with Joe Turner and, in 1968, Charly Antolini. He had a hit in Germany in 1954 with "Schuster bleib bei deinen Leisten", the German-language version of the song "The Little Shoemaker". This spent eight weeks at #1 on the German hit parade starting in October 1954. He also wrote a treatise on clarinet improvisation, published by Schott in 1967. Joe Muranyi
Joseph P. Muranyi (January 14, 1928 – April 20, 2012) was an American jazz clarinetist, producer and critic. Muranyi studied with Lennie Tristano but was primarily interested in early jazz styles such as Dixieland and swing. After playing in a United States Army Air Forces band, he moved to New York City in the 1950s, and attended the Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University. In the 1950s he played under Eddie Condon, collaborating with Jimmy McPartland, Max Kaminsky, Yank Lawson, Bobby Hackett, and Red Allen. During that decade he also played with the Red Onion Jazz Band (1952–54), Danny Barker (1958), and Wingy Manone. In 1963, Muranyi played with The Village Stompers, a Dixieland band which reached the pop charts with its song " Washington Square". Ruth Brown
Ruth Alston Brown (; January 12, 1928 – November 17, 2006) was an American singer-songwriter and actress, sometimes referred to as the " Queen of R&B". She was noted for bringing a pop music style to R&B music in a series of hit songs for Atlantic Records in the 1950s, such as " So Long", "Teardrops from My Eyes" and " (Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean". For these contributions, Atlantic became known as "the house that Ruth built" (alluding to the popular nickname for the old Yankee Stadium). Brown was a 1993 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
