1926 Horta Earthquake
The 1926 Horta earthquake ( pt, Sismo da Horta de 1926/Terramoto da Horta), occurred at 8:42 a.m. (local time) on 31 August. It caused the destruction of many of the buildings located in the city of Horta, the central group of the Portuguese autonomous region of the Azores, resulting in the death of nine and the partial or complete destruction of 4,138 buildings. Earthquake From April 1926 onwards, the island of Faial was rocked by a series of tremors that increased in intensity, until 5 April. On this date, a singular event resulted in destruction or damage to buildings in the civil parishes of Flamengos, Ribeirinha and Conceição, in particular in the localitiesof Farrobo, Lomba and Espalhafatos. Anadia Futebol Clube ''(abbreviated as Anadia FC)'' is a Portuguese football club based in Anadia in the district of Aveiro. Anadia is also a club for field hockey and basketball. Background Anadia FC currently plays in the Campeonato de Portugal which is the third tier of Portuguese football. The club was founded in 1926 and they play their home matches at the Municipal Engº Sílvio Henriques Cerveira in Anadia. The stadium is able to accommodate 6,500 spectators. The club is affiliated to Associação de Futebol de Aveiro and has competed in the AF Aveiro Taça. The club has also entered the national cup competition known as Taça de Portugal on many occasions. Anadia lost its president António Simões in a car crash on 20 November 2009. Sporting Clube Lourinhanense, simply Lourinhanense, is a Portuguese football club based in Lourinhã, Lisbon. It currently plays in the Regional Championships, and holds home games at ''Estádio Municipal da Lourinhã'', with a capacity of 2,000 seats. The club was founded in 1926, and served for a time as the farm team of league giants Sporting Clube de Portugal. The ''Ditadura Nacional'' (, National Dictatorship) was the name given to the regime that governed Portugal from 1926, after the re-election of General Óscar Carmona to the post of President, until 1933. The preceding period of military dictatorship that started after the 28 May 1926 coup d'état is known as ' (Military Dictatorship). After adopting a new constitution in 1933, the regime changed its name to '' Estado Novo'' (New State). The 28 May 1926 coup d'état, sometimes called 28 May Revolution or, during the period of the authoritarian Estado Novo ( en, New State), the National Revolution ( pt, Revolução Nacional), was a military coup of a nationalist origin, that put an end to the unstable Portuguese First Republic and initiated 48 years of authoritarian rule in Portugal.
