1924 World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. Men's and pairs' competitions took place from February 26 to 27 in Manchester, United Kingdom. Ladies' competitions took place from February 16 to 17 in Oslo, Norway. Manchester () is a city in Greater Manchester, England. It had a population of 552,000 in 2021. Beatrix Loughran
Beatrix Suzetta Loughran (June 30, 1900 – December 7, 1975) was an American figure skater who competed in single and pair skating. She is the only American to win three Olympic medals in figure skating (1924, 1928, 1932), and one of the oldest figure skating Olympic medalists. She is a six-time national champion (1925–1927 in singles, 1930–1932 in pairs). Her pairs partner was Sherwin Badger. Loughran was born in Mount Vernon, New York, and died in Long Beach, New York. She was the aunt of three-time national medalist Audrey Peppe. Ellen Brockhöft, née Rehra, (29 April 1893 – 19 December 1977) was a German figure skater. Competing in ladies' singles, she was a two-time world silver medalist and a seven-time German national champion. She represented Germany at the 1928 Winter Olympics and finished ninth. Brockhöft was a member of Berliner Schlittschuhclub. During her skating career she claimed to be younger than her real age, believing this would help her career. Herbert Yglesias
Henry Yglesias (14 May 1867 – 20 August 1949) was a British figure skater. He competed in the men's singles event at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Along with fellow skater Edgar Syers, Yglesias lobbied for the adoption of the international style of skating to become the standard in England. They requested that the International Skating Union hold the third edition of the World Championships in London in 1898. Yglesias was part of the National Skating Association for more than 40 years, becoming a leading judge in skating. He also became a solicitor, and was a partner in the firm Lewis & Yglesias. Reidar Lund (3 June 1897 – 19 March 1978) was a Norwegian cinematographer. Filming his first sports event at Frogner stadion in 1920, Lund participated as a cameraman on expeditions to Novaya Zemlya in 1921 and Alaska in 1924. He was a cinematographer for his first motion picture in 1925, ''Himmeluret'', and was especially active between 1938 and 1946, with films such as ''Hu Dagmar'' (1939), ''Godvakker-Maren'' (1940), ''Jeg drepte!''
