Vasco Gonçalves
General Vasco dos Santos Gonçalves OA (; Lisbon 3 May 1921 – 11 June 2005) was a Portuguese army officer in the Engineering Corps who took part in the Carnation Revolution and later served as the 104th Prime Minister from 18 July 1974 to 19 September 1975. Early life Vasco dos Santos Gonçalves was born on 3 May 1921, in Sintra, Portugal. His father, Vítor Gonçalves, was an amateur footballer turned foreign exchange dealer. He graduated from the Portuguese military academy as an engineer in 1942. Gonçalves married, in 1950, Aida Rocha Afonso, with whom he had a son, Vitor, and a daughter, Maria João. In 1942, Gonçalves graduated from a Portuguese military academy in the Army Engineering Corps. As an officer, Gonçalves served in Portuguese Goa, and spent part of his military career in the Portuguese overseas territories of Angola and Mozambique. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. José de Sousa Saramago, GColSE ComSE GColCa (; 16 November 1922 – 18 June 2010), was a Portuguese writer and recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature for his "parables sustained by imagination, compassion and irony ith which hecontinually enables us once again to apprehend an elusory reality." Roman Catholic Diocese Of Beja
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Beja ( la, Dioecesis Beiensis) is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Évora. History Beja (Portugal), Beja lies on the site of Pax Julia, or Paca, of the Romans, and is still surrounded by remains of old Roman walls, partly restored. The diocese was created 10 June 1770. Beja was taken from its Islamic rulers in 1162 by Afonso I of Portugal. Beja Cathedral is an old church, much modernized, of uncertain date. The chronicler Isidorus Pacensis, of the eighth century, was traditionally said to have been bishop of Beja; but this is now disputed.S. M. Manuel Franco da Costa de Oliveira Falcão (10 November 1922 – 21 February 2012) was a Portugal, Portuguese Prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Manuel Franco da Costa de Oliveira Falcão was born in Lisbon, and was ordained a priest on 29 June 1951. Falcão was appointed auxiliary archbishop to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lisbon, Archdiocese of Lisbon on 6 December 1966, as well as titular bishop of Thelepte, and ordained bishop on 22 January 1967. Falcão was appointed bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Beja, Diocese of Beja on 8 September 1980 and would remain in the post until his retirement on 25 January 1999.
